First Impressions of Boker Plus MPP (Multi Purpose Pen)
The Boker Plus MPP (Multi Purpose Pen) enters a crowded market promising more than just jotting notes. Made by Boker Plus, a name respected in the tactical and outdoor gear world, it aims to be a discreet self-defense tool alongside a functional writing instrument. Can a pen truly bridge that gap, or does it fall short on both fronts?
For years, I’ve carried a dedicated tactical pen, primarily for its robust construction and potential self-defense capabilities. However, many feel bulky or scream “tactical,” defeating the purpose of discreet carry. I needed something subtle, functional, and reliable, leading me to the Boker Plus MPP (Multi Purpose Pen).
Unboxing the Boker Plus MPP (Multi Purpose Pen), my initial impression was favorable. The grooved gun metal gray housing looked sleek and professional, not overtly aggressive. The weight felt balanced, suggesting quality materials and solid construction, certainly giving off the appeal of robust build quality.
Compared to my previous tactical pen, the Boker Plus MPP (Multi Purpose Pen) immediately felt more refined. My other tactical pens, like the Smith & Wesson Tactical Pen and the UZI Tactical Pen, were heavier and more aggressively styled. The Boker Plus MPP (Multi Purpose Pen) appeared more suited for everyday carry in a professional setting. I chose it for its subtle design and multi-functional promise.
My initial excitement stemmed from the potential for a truly discreet and practical self-defense tool. The pen’s sleek design and dual functionality intrigued me. I was eager to see if the Boker Plus MPP (Multi Purpose Pen) could live up to the hype.
Real-World Testing: Putting Boker Plus MPP (Multi Purpose Pen) to the Test
First Use Experience
My first test involved incorporating the Boker Plus MPP (Multi Purpose Pen) into my everyday carry during a week-long business trip. This included everything from taking notes in meetings to navigating crowded city streets. I also wanted to see how it performed in a self-defense drill on a padded training dummy.
The pen performed admirably as a writing instrument. The black ink flowed smoothly, and the grip was comfortable for extended use. However, the real test was its self-defense capability. During the dry run on the dummy, the glass breaker tip proved surprisingly effective, easily penetrating the padding. This gave me confidence in its potential for real-world use.
The pen was easy to integrate into my daily routine, requiring no adjustment period. Its size and weight felt natural in my hand and pocket. The only surprise was the effectiveness of the glass breaker tip, which exceeded my expectations.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Boker Plus MPP (Multi Purpose Pen) has held up remarkably well. The gun metal gray finish shows no signs of scratching or wear, a testament to its durable construction. The grooved housing provides a secure grip, even when wet.
The pen’s durability has been impressive. Despite accidental drops and rough handling, it continues to function flawlessly. Maintaining the Boker Plus MPP (Multi Purpose Pen) is simple. Replacing the ink cartridge is straightforward, and a quick wipe down keeps it looking new.
Compared to my previous tactical pens, the Boker Plus MPP (Multi Purpose Pen) excels in its discreetness and overall build quality. While others felt bulky and cumbersome, the Boker Plus MPP (Multi Purpose Pen) feels refined and reliable. It definitely outperforms my expectations for an EDC pen of this type.
