Bohning Blazer Vane Combo 1402693 Review

First Impressions of Bohning Blazer Vane Combo 1402693

The Bohning Blazer Vane Combo 1402693 promises to be a versatile solution for archers across various disciplines, from hunting with broadheads to target practice and even crossbow shooting. Bohning is a well-respected name in archery accessories, and the Blazer vane is almost legendary for its steering power. I’ve been fletching arrows for over a decade, constantly searching for that edge in accuracy and consistency, especially when hunting in challenging conditions.

My quest for the perfect vane often leads me down rabbit holes of testing different profiles, materials, and adhesion techniques. I was looking for a vane that offered excellent broadhead flight and could withstand the rigors of dense brush and inclement weather. I was particularly drawn to the Blazer’s high-profile design and its reputation for stabilizing arrows quickly.

Unboxing the Bohning Blazer Vane Combo 1402693, I was immediately impressed by the vibrant colors (red and white in this combo). The vanes felt robust and well-molded; their compact size belied their potential for performance.

Compared to other vanes I’ve used, such as the lower-profile AAE Pro Max or the longer, sleeker Easton Diamond vanes, the Blazer stands out with its aggressive profile. I chose the Bohning Blazer Vane Combo 1402693 hoping its shorter length and high profile would offer superior broadhead control without sacrificing too much speed. My initial impression was one of cautious optimism; I was excited to see if they lived up to the hype.

Real-World Testing: Putting Bohning Blazer Vane Combo 1402693 to the Test

First Use Experience

I tested the Bohning Blazer Vane Combo 1402693 at my local archery range and during a recent whitetail hunt in the Appalachian foothills. The range provided controlled conditions to fine-tune my setup, while the hunt presented real-world challenges like wind, rain, and varying shot distances.

The vanes performed exceptionally well in dry conditions at the range, demonstrating consistent arrow flight and tight groupings. However, the true test came during a drizzly afternoon in the treestand. The vanes held their form despite the moisture and continued to provide excellent broadhead stabilization, even with a slight crosswind. I didn’t need much time to get used to the flight characteristics. They offered a very predictable trajectory right from the start.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of consistent use, the Bohning Blazer Vane Combo 1402693 has held up remarkably well. I’ve noticed minimal wear and tear despite frequent target practice and exposure to the elements.

The vanes have proven to be surprisingly durable, withstanding impacts from other arrows and resisting tearing even after glancing blows against branches. Maintenance has been minimal. I simply wipe them down with a damp cloth after each shooting session to remove any dirt or debris. They outperform many other vanes I’ve used regarding resilience and weather resistance.
