Bob Allen Bison Pistol Rug, Black Review

Let’s Dive into Bob Allen Bison Pistol Rug, Black

The Bob Allen Bison Pistol Rug, Black is a no-frills, budget-friendly solution for transporting and protecting your handgun. Bob Allen, a name synonymous with practical hunting and shooting accessories, offers this pistol rug as an affordable option for shooters of all levels. Having dealt with countless tactical bags and cases over the years, I was intrigued by the Bob Allen Bison Pistol Rug, Black‘s simplicity and price point.

I was looking for a basic, inexpensive case to safely transport my smaller pistols to and from the range. I needed something to keep them protected from scratches and dings during transport, without breaking the bank.

Upon unboxing, the Bob Allen Bison Pistol Rug, Black felt sturdy enough for its intended purpose. The canvas exterior felt reasonably durable and the foam padding offered a decent level of protection. Its lightweight design was a definite plus.

Compared to some higher-end pistol cases I’ve used – like those from Pelican or SKB, with their hard-shell construction and custom-cut foam inserts – the Bob Allen Bison Pistol Rug, Black is obviously far less robust. However, those cases cost significantly more. I also considered the Allen Company Ambidextrous Pistol Case, which is similarly priced but lacked the full wraparound handles of the Bob Allen Bison Pistol Rug, Black. Ultimately, I chose the Bob Allen for its balance of price, simplicity, and ease of carry.

My initial impression was one of pleasant surprise. It’s basic, but it gets the job done, and that’s exactly what I was looking for at this price point. It exceeded my expectations for a sub-$20 pistol case.

Real-World Testing: Putting Bob Allen Bison Pistol Rug, Black to the Test

First Use Experience

I first tested the Bob Allen Bison Pistol Rug, Black at my local outdoor shooting range. I used it to transport a compact 9mm pistol and a small .38 revolver. The rug performed admirably, keeping the firearms secure and protected during transport in the back of my truck.

The weather was dry and sunny, so I didn’t have the opportunity to test its water resistance. However, the canvas material seems like it would offer minimal protection against heavy rain. There were no issues with ease of use. I simply unzipped the rug, placed the pistol inside, and zipped it back up.

No surprises after the first use, just straightforward functionality as expected. It’s a case, it holds a pistol, and it protects it from minor bumps.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of regular use, the Bob Allen Bison Pistol Rug, Black has held up reasonably well. There are no major signs of wear and tear. The canvas exterior has resisted minor abrasions and dirt, and the zipper still functions smoothly.

The foam padding has retained its shape and cushioning ability. I’ve found it easy to clean. A simple wipe-down with a damp cloth removes most dirt and grime.

Compared to some of the more expensive pistol cases I own, the Bob Allen Bison Pistol Rug, Black definitely doesn’t offer the same level of ruggedness or long-term durability. However, for its intended purpose – light-duty transport and storage – it has performed admirably. It’s a great value for the price and offers adequate protection for pistols that are not subject to extreme environments.
