First Impressions of Black Scorpion Outdoor Gear Zev IWB Full Profile Holster
The Black Scorpion Outdoor Gear Zev IWB Full Profile Holster promises a blend of secure concealment and rapid draw for ZEV Technologies OZ9 owners. I’ve seen countless holsters in my decade-plus in the tactical gear world, and the immediate appeal here is the specifically tailored design for a popular, yet sometimes overlooked, firearm. Can this sub-$40 holster truly deliver on its promise of a secure and accessible carry?
My search for a reliable and affordable IWB holster for my OZ9 led me here. Many generic holsters just don’t provide the retention or secure fit necessary for comfortable all-day carry. I was specifically looking for a holster that offered good trigger guard coverage and a customizable cant angle.
Upon receiving the holster, I was immediately struck by the clean lines and apparent durability of the Kydex. It felt surprisingly lightweight, a crucial factor for comfortable concealed carry. The edges were smooth and the overall fit and finish appeared well-executed.
Compared to some universal nylon holsters I’ve used in the past, the Black Scorpion Outdoor Gear offers a far more rigid and secure feel. I also considered a more expensive, custom-molded Kydex option from another brand, but the price point of the Black Scorpion was too appealing to ignore for initial testing. My initial impression was cautiously optimistic – this holster seemed to offer a lot of value for the money.
Real-World Testing: Putting Black Scorpion Outdoor Gear Zev IWB Full Profile Holster to the Test
First Use Experience
My first test of the Black Scorpion Outdoor Gear Zev IWB Full Profile Holster was at an outdoor shooting range during a moderately humid day. I ran several draw-and-fire drills, focusing on smooth presentation and re-holstering. The holster initially felt a little stiff, but I quickly adjusted the retention screw to find a comfortable balance between security and speed.
The audible “click” upon re-holstering provided positive feedback, ensuring the OZ9 was properly secured. The 30-degree cant adjustment proved invaluable, allowing me to dial in the perfect draw angle for my body type and preferred carry position. There were no immediate issues, and the holster felt secure and comfortable against my body.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of daily carry, the Black Scorpion Outdoor Gear Zev IWB Full Profile Holster has held up remarkably well. I’ve worn it during various activities, from simple errands to light hiking, and it has consistently maintained its shape and retention. There are no noticeable signs of wear and tear on the Kydex itself.
Cleaning is a breeze – a quick wipe down with a damp cloth is all it takes to remove any accumulated dust or sweat. Compared to some leather holsters I’ve owned, the Kydex construction is far less prone to absorbing moisture and odors. It definitely outperforms cheaper nylon holsters in terms of durability and ease of maintenance.

Performance & Functionality
The Black Scorpion Outdoor Gear Zev IWB Full Profile Holster performs its primary function – secure and concealed carry – admirably. The retention is positive and adjustable, preventing accidental dislodgement while allowing for a quick and clean draw. The full profile design offers complete trigger guard coverage, enhancing safety during carry.
The holster’s strength lies in its simplicity and reliability; the main weakness is the lack of compatibility with red dot sights. It absolutely meets the expectations for a budget-friendly, dedicated IWB holster for the ZEV OZ9, especially given its price point.
Design & Ergonomics
The holster’s design is straightforward and functional. The Kydex is molded precisely to the contours of the OZ9, resulting in a snug and secure fit. The lightweight construction and smooth edges enhance comfort during extended carry.
There’s virtually no learning curve – simply adjust the cant and retention to your liking, and you’re good to go. The audible click upon re-holstering is a welcome feature that provides positive confirmation of secure weapon retention.
Durability & Maintenance
The Black Scorpion Outdoor Gear Zev IWB Full Profile Holster appears built to last. The Kydex is resistant to scratches, abrasions, and moisture. Regular cleaning involves only a quick wipe-down, making maintenance incredibly simple.
Assuming no extreme abuse, this holster should provide years of reliable service. The robust Kydex material is known for its long-lasting properties under normal use conditions.
Accessories and Customization Options
The holster itself comes with minimal accessories – primarily the adjustable retention screw and a standard belt loop. It does not directly support any aftermarket accessories like weapon lights or lasers due to its minimalist design.
It is not designed for optics, therefore red dot sights are not an option without modifying the holster yourself (not recommended). The belt clip is riveted to the Kydex, and while it can likely be replaced, doing so would require some skill and potentially damage the holster.
