Birchwood Casey World of Targets Spoiler Alert Black Target Board w/Yellow & Orange Target AR400 Steel 22 Rimfire Review

The Birchwood Casey World of Targets Spoiler Alert Black Target Board w/Yellow & Orange Target AR400 Steel 22 Rimfire Made a Bold First Impression

In a world saturated with reactive targets, the Birchwood Casey World of Targets Spoiler Alert Black Target Board w/Yellow & Orange Target AR400 Steel 22 Rimfire promised something more than just a splattered image. It shouted confidence, proclaiming loud and clear hits and misses. My quest for a reliable, portable, and engaging .22 rimfire target led me to this seemingly simple yet intriguing design from Birchwood Casey.

Years of working with diverse tactical and outdoor gear have instilled a healthy dose of skepticism, making me always on the lookout for gear that delivers. Upon unboxing, the target board felt solid, the AR400 steel plate exuding durability. Its matte black finish, contrasted by the vibrant yellow and orange target, hinted at a well-thought-out design aimed at maximizing visibility.

I considered other rimfire target options, like the Caldwell Rimfire Resetting Target and the Do-All Outdoors Paper/Steel Target Combo. Ultimately, the Birchwood Casey Spoiler Alert won out due to its claimed portability and emphasis on audible feedback. The immediate impression was one of eager anticipation; I couldn’t wait to hear that satisfying “ping” at the range.

2. ## Real-World Testing: Putting Birchwood Casey World of Targets Spoiler Alert Black Target Board w/Yellow & Orange Target AR400 Steel 22 Rimfire to the Test

   First Use Experience

My initial testing ground was the local shooting range, a controlled environment to assess the target’s basic functionality. Set up was a breeze; the target board’s design ensured stability on the uneven ground. I began shooting from 25 yards, the report of my .22 rifle echoing across the range as rounds struck the steel.

The “spoiler alert” wasn’t kidding; the audible feedback was undeniably loud, even with hearing protection. This made it immediately clear when I hit the target, no ambiguity like with paper targets. A slight breeze didn’t affect the target’s performance, and the black finish reduced glare, enhancing visibility in the bright sunlight.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several range trips and countless rounds downrange, the Birchwood Casey World of Targets Spoiler Alert has proven its mettle. There are no signs of deformation on the AR400 steel target face, despite consistent use with various .22 LR ammunition. The paint has chipped slightly around the edges from repeated impacts, but this is purely cosmetic and doesn’t affect functionality.

Maintenance is minimal: a quick wipe-down with a cloth to remove any residue is all that’s needed. This simple cleaning keeps the target looking good and ensures reliable performance. Compared to previous experiences with reactive targets that either broke easily or provided inconsistent feedback, the Birchwood Casey target has significantly outperformed my expectations.
