BD GREY PISTOL RUG XSM WITHOUT HANDLES (FF) Review

The BD GREY PISTOL RUG XSM WITHOUT HANDLES (FF) Made a Bold First Impression

The BD GREY PISTOL RUG XSM WITHOUT HANDLES (FF) isn’t exactly a showstopper, but in the realm of budget-friendly pistol storage, it piqued my interest. As a gear specialist who has seen countless cases and rugs, I was looking for a no-frills option for basic protection, and the low price point made it a tempting purchase. I wanted to see if this humble offering could truly protect a firearm from the minor bumps and scrapes of everyday carry and storage.

My journey to acquiring the BD GREY PISTOL RUG XSM WITHOUT HANDLES (FF) started with a need for efficient, affordable storage for my growing handgun collection. I was tired of piling pistols into range bags without adequate protection. The appeal was simple: a padded, water-resistant barrier against scratches and dings.

Upon receiving the BD GREY PISTOL RUG XSM WITHOUT HANDLES (FF), my first impression was…understated. It’s undeniably basic, a simple grey rectangle of nylon. The lack of handles emphasizes its role as a storage solution, not a carrying case. Compared to a high-end, hard-sided pistol case or even a padded pistol bag with multiple pockets, this rug seemed almost too simple. I was initially skeptical, but the promise of durable, water-resistant protection at such a low cost was intriguing.

In comparison, I have used Savior Equipment pistol rugs with thicker padding and internal magazine pouches, and Plano hard-sided pistol cases offering rigid protection. I chose the BD GREY PISTOL RUG XSM WITHOUT HANDLES (FF) for its intended purpose: basic, space-saving storage where bulk isn’t ideal. This choice stemmed from prioritizing compact storage over the enhanced features and ruggedness of higher-priced options. I wouldn’t say I was blown away, but I was definitely curious to see how it performed.

Real-World Testing: Putting BD GREY PISTOL RUG XSM WITHOUT HANDLES (FF) to the Test

First Use Experience

I first tested the BD GREY PISTOL RUG XSM WITHOUT HANDLES (FF) at my local shooting range. I used it to transport a compact 9mm pistol. It rode inside a larger range bag. The rug protected the pistol from contact with other gear.

The weather was slightly damp, and the water-resistant nylon exterior of the rug proved its worth. It kept the moisture away from my pistol. The ease of use was straightforward – unzip, insert pistol, zip closed. No complexities. There were no immediate issues; it did exactly what it was supposed to do: provide a padded, water-resistant layer.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of use, the BD GREY PISTOL RUG XSM WITHOUT HANDLES (FF) has held up surprisingly well. It primarily lives inside my gun safe, providing a barrier between firearms. There are no signs of significant wear and tear, despite regular use.

Cleaning is simple; a quick wipe with a damp cloth removes any dust or debris. Compared to storing pistols directly on the safe’s shelves, this rug offers a significant upgrade in protection. It avoids scratches and finish wear. For basic storage, it’s an excellent and affordable solution that overperforms relative to its price point.
