Barronett Blinds Spy 5 Portable Hunting Blind Review

First Impressions of Barronett Blinds Spy 5 Portable Hunting Blind

The Barronett Blinds Spy 5 Portable Hunting Blind promises a blend of concealment, space, and portability, a trifecta any serious hunter seeks. From Barronett Blinds, a manufacturer known for its affordable yet functional blinds, the Spy 5 immediately catches the eye with its unique five-sided design and view-through mesh. It aims to provide a panoramic view while keeping you hidden, a critical advantage when pursuing wary game.

I’ve spent countless hours in blinds, often cramped and with limited visibility, so I sought a solution that offered more room and a better field of view without sacrificing concealment. The promise of the Spy 5’s extra space and innovative mesh was compelling. Upon unboxing, the Barronett Blinds Spy 5 Portable Hunting Blind felt surprisingly lightweight despite its size. The Crater Harvest color seemed effective, blending well with typical woodland environments, and the fabric felt reasonably durable.

Compared to my older, smaller four-sided blind and a heavier, more cumbersome hard-sided blind, the Spy 5 seemed to strike a good balance between portability and internal space. I was hoping for something that could handle multiple days in the field with the ability to easily pack up and move. Initially, I was optimistic, but also slightly wary – could the view-through mesh truly offer the promised concealment?

Real-World Testing: Putting Barronett Blinds Spy 5 Portable Hunting Blind to the Test

First Use Experience

I first deployed the Barronett Blinds Spy 5 Portable Hunting Blind during an early-season deer hunt in a dense hardwood forest. The setup was relatively straightforward, taking about 10 minutes alone, a feat aided by the blind’s manageable weight. The Crater Harvest camo blended seamlessly with the surrounding trees and brush.

The blind provided ample space for me and my gear, a significant improvement over my smaller blind. The weather was damp, with a light drizzle throughout the morning. Despite the conditions, the water-resistant fabric kept the interior relatively dry. However, the real test was the view-through mesh, which performed remarkably well. I could clearly see out, even in low light, while remaining virtually invisible from the outside, at least at a distance of more than 15 yards.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of use during both deer and turkey seasons, the Barronett Blinds Spy 5 Portable Hunting Blind has proven to be a reliable and comfortable hunting companion. There are no major signs of wear and tear on the fabric or frame. The stakes and tie-down ropes have held firm, even during moderately windy conditions.

Maintenance is simple; mud and dirt wipe off easily, and the blind dries quickly after rain. Compared to my previous experiences with less durable blinds, the Spy 5 is a clear upgrade. The black interior coating remains effective at minimizing shadows and movement detection. The Barronett Blinds Spy 5 Portable Hunting Blind has exceeded my initial expectations and become a go-to for most hunts.
