Axcel AVX-31 Fiber Optic Ring Pin 1408270 Review

First Impressions of Axcel AVX-31 Fiber Optic Ring Pin 1408270

The world of archery sights is a constant evolution, with archers endlessly seeking that perfect combination of visibility, adjustability, and durability. When I first heard about the Axcel AVX-31 Fiber Optic Ring Pin 1408270, I was intrigued by its promise of quick pin changes and easy brightness adjustments. Designed by Axcel, a brand known for its high-quality archery components, the AVX-31 aims to give archers ultimate control over their aiming point in any lighting condition, which made me curious.

Years of chasing whitetails through dense forests have taught me the importance of adapting to rapidly changing light. The dim morning hours often require a brighter pin, while the midday sun can wash out a standard fiber optic. I was specifically looking for a pin system that allowed for quick, tool-less brightness adjustments, something I hoped the Axcel AVX-31 Fiber Optic Ring Pin 1408270 could provide.

My first impression upon unboxing was positive. The ring pin felt solid and well-constructed, with a smooth rheostat cover that moved effortlessly. The blue fiber optic pin itself was vibrant, and the overall design felt intuitive.

I was torn between this and a similar offering from Spot Hogg, as well as a more basic pin from TruGlo. I chose the Axcel AVX-31 Fiber Optic Ring Pin 1408270 because of its reputation for durability and the perceived ease of making adjustments, which are critical during a hunt. My initial excitement was tempered with a bit of skepticism, as I’ve been burned by overhyped archery gear before, but I was hopeful that this ring pin would live up to its promises.

First Use Experience

I initially tested the Axcel AVX-31 Fiber Optic Ring Pin 1408270 at my local archery range, which offers both indoor and outdoor lanes. I wanted to see how the pin performed in controlled environments before subjecting it to the rigors of a real hunt. The ease of installation was immediately apparent; it mounted quickly and securely to my existing sight housing.

During my initial range session, I tested the pin under various lighting conditions, from the bright overhead lights of the indoor range to the dappled sunlight of the outdoor lanes. The rheostat cover proved incredibly useful for dialing in the perfect brightness, eliminating the halo effect that can occur with overly bright fiber optics. There were no issues to report right out of the gate, it performed well.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of regular use at the range, I took the Axcel AVX-31 Fiber Optic Ring Pin 1408270 on a weekend hunting trip in the Allegheny Mountains. This was the true test, as I needed the pin to perform flawlessly in unpredictable weather conditions and low-light situations. The durability held up nicely; no signs of wear or tear.

Over the past several months, the pin has proven to be incredibly reliable. The rheostat cover still moves smoothly, and the fiber optic remains bright and visible. Cleaning is also very simple and quick; I wipe it down after range sessions to prevent any grime buildup.

I have previously used fiber optic pins from CBE and HHA, both reputable brands, but the Axcel AVX-31 Fiber Optic Ring Pin 1408270 stands out due to its superior brightness control and overall build quality. It has not disappointed.
