First Impressions of Avian X Benelli Mobile 12 Gauge Turkey Choke Tube
The Avian X Benelli Mobile 12 Gauge Turkey Choke Tube promises tighter, more consistent patterns from your 12-gauge shotgun, specifically tailored for turkey hunting. Avian X claims this choke maximizes kinetic energy at extended ranges, thanks to its internal groove technology and radical porting. As a seasoned hunter always looking for that extra edge, I was eager to see if this choke tube lived up to the hype.
For years, I’ve struggled to find a choke that reliably delivers tight patterns at 40 yards and beyond, without excessive recoil or inconsistent pellet distribution. I was looking for a choke tube that would provide confidence in the field, ensuring a clean, ethical kill every time. My first impression was that this choke tube seemed well built and sturdy.
Upon unboxing, the Avian X Benelli Mobile 12 Gauge Turkey Choke Tube felt solid and well-machined. The PVD finish gave it a sleek, professional look, and the weight felt appropriate for a durable choke. Compared to my previous choke, a Carlson’s Long Beard XR choke, the Avian X offered a more aggressive porting design and a slightly longer overall length. I chose this over a competitor like a Primos Jelly Head because of Avian X’s reputation for quality and the specific design elements aimed at separating the wad for tighter patterns. My first thought was, “This thing looks like it means business”.
Real-World Testing: Putting Avian X Benelli Mobile 12 Gauge Turkey Choke Tube to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the Avian X Benelli Mobile 12 Gauge Turkey Choke Tube at my local shooting range, under clear, sunny conditions. I used a Benelli Nova 12-gauge shotgun and a variety of turkey loads, including Winchester Long Beard XR (my standard), Federal Premium TSS, and Hevi-Shot Magnum Blend. Installation was a breeze, screwing in easily and securely.
The first few shots were immediately impressive. The patterns were noticeably tighter and more consistent than with my previous choke. There was a slight increase in felt recoil, but nothing unmanageable. I was pleasantly surprised by the pattern density at 40 yards.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Avian X Benelli Mobile 12 Gauge Turkey Choke Tube has proven to be a reliable and durable addition to my hunting setup. I’ve taken it on multiple turkey hunts in various weather conditions, including rain, mud, and extreme heat. The choke tube has held up remarkably well.
There are no signs of significant wear and tear. The PVD finish has resisted scratches and corrosion. Cleaning is also straightforward – a quick wipe down with a bore brush and solvent after each use keeps it in top condition. Compared to my previous choke, the Avian X seems to maintain its pattern consistency for longer periods between cleanings. The tighter patterns achieved consistently outperform other chokes I have used.
