Let’s Dive into ATI Outdoors X1 AK-47 Pistol Grip
The ATI Outdoors X1 AK-47 Pistol Grip is a simple yet effective upgrade for your AK platform rifle or pistol. Designed by ATI Outdoors, it promises improved ergonomics, recoil reduction, and enhanced grip, all at a budget-friendly price point.
I was perpetually annoyed by the slick, uncomfortable factory grip on my AK. I needed something that offered better control during rapid firing and would fit my larger hands more comfortably. The advertised Sure Grip texturing and ergonomic design of the ATI Outdoors X1 AK-47 Pistol Grip caught my eye.
The grip comes in a simple plastic package. Upon unboxing, the first thing I noticed was the weight – or lack thereof. It’s incredibly light, thanks to the glass-reinforced polymer construction, and the Sure Grip texturing felt aggressive yet comfortable. I was initially surprised by how substantial it felt despite its minimal weight.
Compared to the Magpul MOE AK Grip, which I’ve used previously, the ATI Outdoors X1 AK-47 Pistol Grip felt less bulky but potentially more grippy. The Hogue AK-47 OverMolded Rubber Grip provides a softer feel, but I was looking for something more durable and weather-resistant. I chose the ATI Outdoors X1 AK-47 Pistol Grip for its balance of features, price, and reputation for durability.
My initial impression was cautiously optimistic. While it looked and felt promising, I was eager to see how it performed on the range under live fire. I was excited about the potential recoil reduction claims.
Real-World Testing: Putting ATI Outdoors X1 AK-47 Pistol Grip to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the ATI Outdoors X1 AK-47 Pistol Grip at an outdoor range, primarily focusing on rapid firing drills and target acquisition at varying distances. The weather was dry and sunny, a typical day for Southern California shooting.
The grip immediately felt better than the stock one. The Sure Grip texturing provided excellent control, even with sweaty hands after extended shooting sessions. I noticed a slight reduction in muzzle climb during rapid fire, which aided in faster follow-up shots.
Installation was a breeze, taking only a few minutes with a simple punch. My initial concern was that the grip might feel too aggressive during extended use, but it remained comfortable throughout the entire range session. There were no surprises; it performed exactly as advertised right out of the box.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use, the ATI Outdoors X1 AK-47 Pistol Grip has held up remarkably well. There are no signs of significant wear and tear, even after being subjected to various conditions like heat, dust, and occasional bumps.
Cleaning is simple, usually just requiring a quick wipe down with a damp cloth. The glass-reinforced polymer is resistant to most common gun solvents, making maintenance hassle-free.
Compared to my previous experiences with aftermarket AK grips, this one definitely outperforms in terms of grip and durability for the price. It has become my go-to grip for my AK platform. I’m pleased with its performance and reliability.
