The ArmaLaser TR-Series for Taurus PT709/740 Red Laser Sight Made a Bold First Impression
The ArmaLaser TR-Series for Taurus PT709/740 Red Laser Sight promises instant laser activation and a custom fit for the popular Taurus Slim line. It’s a red laser sight designed to enhance target acquisition in various lighting conditions, particularly in self-defense scenarios. This product aims to improve accuracy and response time when it matters most.
What led me to this product was a growing concern about low-light shooting scenarios. I wanted a reliable and quickly accessible aiming solution for my Taurus PT709 Slim, without adding excessive bulk or complexity. The ArmaLaser‘s grip-activated design seemed like an ideal solution.
Upon unboxing, the ArmaLaser TR-Series made a strong first impression. The DuPont Zytel FRN Polymer felt robust and well-made. The unit was surprisingly lightweight. It seamlessly integrated with the trigger guard of my PT709.
I considered a Crimson Trace laser guard and a Viridian Reactor TL before settling on the ArmaLaser. I chose the ArmaLaser primarily because of its intuitive grip-touch activation and positive user feedback regarding its brightness and ease of installation. The others seemed to have button placement issues that could lead to fumbling.
My initial impression was excitement mixed with cautious optimism. The design looked promising, and the grip activation was intriguing. I was eager to see if it lived up to the claims of instant activation and enhanced accuracy.
Real-World Testing: Putting ArmaLaser TR-Series for Taurus PT709/740 Red Laser Sight to the Test
First Use Experience
My first experience with the ArmaLaser TR-Series was at my local indoor shooting range. I primarily tested its performance at distances of 7, 15, and 25 yards. The range was well-lit, allowing me to initially assess the laser’s visibility under controlled conditions.
Even in the relatively bright indoor range, the 635nm red laser dot was easily visible. The grip-touch activation worked flawlessly, instantly projecting the beam as I gripped the pistol. No fumbling or conscious effort was needed.
The initial surprise was just how instinctive the activation felt. Within a few magazines, I was consistently acquiring targets faster than with the iron sights alone. There was an adjustment period getting used to point shooting with the laser only.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the ArmaLaser TR-Series continues to perform reliably. I’ve incorporated it into my home defense practice routine. I also use it for occasional concealed carry.
The unit has held up well to repeated handling and range sessions. The polymer housing shows no signs of cracking or significant wear. The laser alignment has remained consistent, requiring only minor adjustments after the initial installation.
Maintaining the ArmaLaser is straightforward. A quick wipe down with a damp cloth after each range session is all it takes. Battery changes are simple, thanks to the easily accessible battery door.
Compared to my previous experiences with laser sights that had manual switches, the ArmaLaser’s grip activation is a game-changer. It’s faster, more intuitive, and eliminates the risk of forgetting to activate the laser in a high-stress situation. This makes it a significant improvement over those models.
