Altra Arrows promises precision and performance with these bushings, designed specifically for their 27-sized arrows and intended for use with pin nocks. I’ve spent countless hours on the range and in the field, tweaking my setup to achieve optimal arrow flight and consistency, so naturally, I was intrigued to see if these bushings could truly live up to the hype.

I was looking for a more robust nock system to protect my arrows from the inevitable impacts that come with competitive shooting and hunting in dense environments. After experiencing repeated nock failures and subsequent arrow damage, I decided a pin nock system was the way to go, and Altra Arrows 27 Pin Bushing seemed like a solid starting point.

Real-World Testing: Putting Altra Arrows 27 Pin Bushing to the Test

First Use Experience

I tested the Altra Arrows 27 Pin Bushing at my local archery range, focusing on both target practice and simulated hunting scenarios. This involved shooting at varying distances and angles to evaluate their impact on arrow flight and nock protection. The conditions were typical for a late summer afternoon: warm, slightly humid, and with a light breeze.

The Altra Arrows 27 Pin Bushing installed easily into my Altra 27 arrows and provided a snug fit for the pin nocks. I immediately noticed a slight improvement in arrow grouping at longer distances, likely due to the more consistent nock alignment. After a few hours of shooting, I deliberately shot a few arrows close together to simulate impacts during a hunt. The pin nocks held up remarkably well, and the bushings showed no signs of deformation or damage.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of consistent use, including multiple range sessions and a weekend hunting trip, the Altra Arrows 27 Pin Bushing have proven to be impressively durable. Despite numerous impacts and close calls, the bushings have maintained their shape and continue to provide a reliable platform for the pin nocks. There is no visible wear and tear.

Maintaining the bushings is incredibly simple. I occasionally wipe them down with a clean cloth to remove any dirt or debris, but no other special care is required. Compared to my previous experience with standard nocks that frequently cracked or broke, the Altra Arrows 27 Pin Bushing offer a significant improvement in longevity and reliability. They have outperformed my expectations.

Breaking Down the Features of Altra Arrows 27 Pin Bushing

Specifications

The Altra Arrows 27 Pin Bushing is crafted from 7075-T6 Aluminum, a high-strength alloy known for its excellent durability and lightweight properties. This material choice ensures the bushings can withstand significant impacts without deforming or cracking. Each bushing weighs approximately 20 grains, a crucial factor for archers who meticulously tune their arrow setups to achieve specific flight characteristics.

The silver color provides a clean and professional look while also making it easier to visually inspect the bushings for any signs of damage. These bushings are designed specifically for use with Altra Arrows 27-sized arrows and pin nocks, ensuring a precise and secure fit. This tight tolerance is essential for consistent arrow flight and accuracy.

Performance & Functionality

The primary function of the Altra Arrows 27 Pin Bushing is to protect the arrow shaft from damage during nock-end impacts. They accomplish this by providing a reinforced collar around the nock receiver. This minimizes the risk of cracking or splitting the carbon fiber. They also improve arrow grouping by ensuring consistent nock alignment, contributing to more predictable arrow flight.

The Altra Arrows 27 Pin Bushing perform exceptionally well in their intended role. They provide a noticeable improvement in nock protection compared to standard nocks. The only potential downside is the added weight of the bushings, which may require adjusting your arrow setup to maintain the desired spine and FOC (Front of Center).

Design & Ergonomics

The Altra Arrows 27 Pin Bushing boasts a simple yet effective design, focusing on functionality and durability. The 7075-T6 Aluminum construction provides excellent strength without adding excessive weight. Installation is straightforward, requiring no special tools or skills.

The smooth, rounded edges of the bushings ensure they don’t snag on the bowstring or arrow rest during the shot cycle. This contributes to a clean and consistent release. The user-friendly design requires no learning curve.

Durability & Maintenance

The Altra Arrows 27 Pin Bushing, due to their 7075-T6 Aluminum construction, are built to last. They should withstand years of use under normal archery conditions. Regular inspection and cleaning are the only maintenance required.

They can easily be replaced if they do become damaged, but based on my testing, they are highly resistant to wear and tear. They are durable and easy to maintain.

Accessories and Customization Options

The Altra Arrows 27 Pin Bushing are primarily designed to work with Altra Arrows pin nocks. However, they are likely compatible with pin nocks from other brands that adhere to standard sizing. This offers archers some flexibility in choosing their preferred nock style.

There are no other specific accessories or customization options directly associated with the bushings themselves. The focus is purely on providing a reliable and durable platform for pin nocks.
