What Makes Allen Vertex Hyper Tough Sling w/ Swivels Stand Out?
The Allen Vertex Hyper Tough Sling w/ Swivels from Allen enters a crowded market of firearm slings, promising durability and functionality at an accessible price point. What immediately grabs attention is its stated focus on ruggedness and security, highlighted by the “Hyper Tough” moniker and the 500 lbs swivel test rating. This positions it as a potential workhorse for shooters who demand reliable gear without breaking the bank.
Years of handling tactical equipment have made me skeptical of budget-friendly options; often, corners are cut, compromising performance and lifespan. I needed a dependable sling for my AR-15 that wouldn’t fray or fail under the rigors of frequent range trips and occasional hunts. The price of the Allen Vertex Hyper Tough Sling w/ Swivels was appealing.
Unboxing revealed a straightforward design. The sling felt surprisingly substantial for its price, with the two-layer construction lending a sense of robustness. The included swivels appeared well-made, instilling initial confidence in their load-bearing capabilities.
Compared to a basic nylon web sling and a more expensive padded sling from a premium brand, the Allen Vertex Hyper Tough Sling w/ Swivels seemed to strike a balance. It lacked the luxurious feel of the padded sling but boasted a more durable construction than the simple nylon option. It was the “Hyper Tough” aspect that initially sold me.
My first impression was cautiously optimistic. The materials felt good in hand, and the overall construction seemed solid. I was eager to test its performance under real-world conditions to see if it lived up to its name.
Real-World Testing: Putting Allen Vertex Hyper Tough Sling w/ Swivels to the Test
First Use Experience
The initial test took place at an outdoor shooting range on a partly cloudy day. I used the Allen Vertex Hyper Tough Sling w/ Swivels on my AR-15 during a three-hour shooting session. The weather was mild, allowing for comfortable handling and observation.
The sling performed adequately, holding the rifle securely against my body while transitioning between firing positions. The BAKTRAK slip-resistant backing did a reasonable job of preventing slippage, even with minimal adjustment. There were no immediate signs of failure or discomfort.
The sling was initially easy to use, attaching quickly to the rifle’s swivel mounts. Adjusting the length required a bit of effort. I also initially experienced some minor chafing around my neck after extended use.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of regular use, the Allen Vertex Hyper Tough Sling w/ Swivels shows moderate wear. The black material has faded slightly in areas exposed to sunlight, but there are no significant signs of tearing or fraying. The swivels are still functioning smoothly.
The sling has proven durable enough for range use and light outdoor activities. It has been exposed to light rain and dust without any adverse effects. Cleaning is straightforward, involving a simple wipe-down with a damp cloth.
Compared to previous slings I’ve used, this one falls somewhere in the middle regarding overall performance. It’s not as comfortable as a padded sling but significantly more durable than many budget-friendly options. Its strength is as a general purpose sling, capable of reliable performance in common environments.
Breaking Down the Features of Allen Vertex Hyper Tough Sling w/ Swivels
Specifications
- Manufacturer: Allen – A well-known brand in the outdoor and shooting accessories market. Allen is known for producing affordable gear, and this sling aligns with that reputation.
- Color: Black/Gray – A classic color combination that blends well with most firearms and tactical gear. The color choice offers a tactical, low-profile aesthetic.
- Length: 9 inches – This refers likely to the length of a specific component, and does not refer to overall sling length. This is an odd specification as sling length is more relevant, and needs to be adjustable.
- Two-layer design: Offers enhanced durability and resistance to wear and tear. This construction method is intended to prolong the sling’s lifespan, even under demanding conditions.
