First Impressions of Allen Veil Terrain Vertex Hyper Tough Sling w/ Swivels
The Allen Veil Terrain Vertex Hyper Tough Sling w/ Swivels promises a blend of durability, comfort, and concealment for rifle users. Allen, a well-known name in outdoor gear, aims to deliver a reliable sling that can withstand tough conditions while keeping your rifle secure and comfortable. This sling immediately caught my eye because of its focus on ruggedness and its incorporation of the Veil Terrain camo, a pattern known for its effectiveness in diverse environments.
As a seasoned outdoorsman, I’ve struggled with slings that either slip off my shoulder, dig into my skin, or simply fall apart after a season of hard use. I needed a sling that could confidently handle the weight of my rifle during long treks and provide a stable shooting platform when needed. The promise of the Allen Veil Terrain Vertex Hyper Tough Sling w/ Swivels to solve these problems piqued my interest.
Unboxing the sling, my initial impression was positive. The two-layer construction felt substantial, and the BAKTRAK backing seemed genuinely slip-resistant. It felt like a quality sling. The swivels, while not overly flashy, felt solid and well-made.
Compared to a basic nylon sling I’ve used for years and a padded neoprene sling from a competitor, the Allen Veil Terrain Vertex Hyper Tough Sling w/ Swivels seemed to strike a good balance between weight, durability, and comfort. The nylon sling was lightweight but offered minimal comfort. The padded neoprene sling was comfortable but lacked the ruggedness I needed for challenging environments. The Allen Veil Terrain Vertex Hyper Tough Sling w/ Swivels presented itself as the best of both worlds.
Initially, I was cautiously optimistic. The materials felt good, and the design seemed practical, but the real test would be in the field. I was eager to see if the sling lived up to its “Hyper Tough” moniker and delivered on its promises of comfort and stability.
Real-World Testing: Putting Allen Veil Terrain Vertex Hyper Tough Sling w/ Swivels to the Test
First Use Experience
My first field test with the Allen Veil Terrain Vertex Hyper Tough Sling w/ Swivels was during a weekend deer hunt in the rugged terrain of the Appalachian Mountains. The weather was typical for late fall: cold, damp, and with occasional light rain. I used the sling with my .30-06 bolt-action rifle.
The BAKTRAK slip-resistant backing immediately proved its worth. Even with a heavy coat and a pack, the sling stayed firmly in place on my shoulder, preventing the rifle from sliding around as I navigated steep inclines and dense underbrush. Adjusting the sling’s length was straightforward, even with gloved hands. After a short learning curve, the length could be easily customized for optimal carry comfort.
There were no immediate issues after the first day. The sling felt comfortable, secure, and performed as expected in the damp conditions. The initial test was promising.
Extended Use & Reliability
After three months of consistent use, including several more hunting trips and numerous range sessions, the Allen Veil Terrain Vertex Hyper Tough Sling w/ Swivels continues to perform well. There are no signs of significant wear and tear. The stitching remains intact, and the Veil Terrain camo shows no signs of fading, even after being exposed to sun, rain, and snow.
Cleaning the sling is simple. A quick wipe-down with a damp cloth removes most dirt and grime. The BAKTRAK material doesn’t seem to absorb moisture or odors, a common problem with some synthetic materials.
Compared to my previous slings, the Allen Veil Terrain Vertex Hyper Tough Sling w/ Swivels has significantly outperformed them in terms of stability, comfort, and durability. It has become an essential part of my hunting and shooting gear. It instills confidence due to secure weapon carry.
