Allen 18494 ThermoBlock Gun Rest Prefilled Front and Rear Bag Endura with Rubber Tread Grip Review

The Allen 18494 ThermoBlock Gun Rest Prefilled Front and Rear Bag Endura with Rubber Tread Grip Made a Bold First Impression

As a seasoned outdoor and tactical gear specialist, I’ve seen countless accessories claiming to enhance shooting accuracy. Many fall short of their promises. That’s why I approached the Allen 18494 ThermoBlock Gun Rest Prefilled Front and Rear Bag Endura with Rubber Tread Grip with a healthy dose of skepticism.

I needed a stable, portable shooting platform for sighting in rifles and testing different loads. Bipods are great, but sometimes you need a more solid and versatile solution, especially on uneven terrain. I’d been using a makeshift setup with sandbags for years, but it was messy, cumbersome, and inconsistent.

Unboxing the Allen 18494 ThermoBlock Gun Rest Prefilled Front and Rear Bag Endura with Rubber Tread Grip, I was immediately impressed by the apparent build quality. The Endura fabric felt tough and durable, and the rubber tread grips looked like they would provide excellent stability. The pre-filled bags had a good weight and felt like they would conform well to different firearms.

Compared to a Caldwell Stinger Shooting Rest or even just loose sandbags, the Allen bags seemed more portable and user-friendly. I was intrigued by the “ThermoBlock” feature, wondering if it genuinely would reduce heat transfer and improve comfort during longer shooting sessions. My initial thought was this could be a worthwhile upgrade over my old system, but the real test would be at the range.

I was pleasantly surprised by the overall design and feel. The Allen 18494 ThermoBlock Gun Rest Prefilled Front and Rear Bag Endura with Rubber Tread Grip exuded a sense of quality that I hadn’t anticipated at this price point. I couldn’t wait to get out and test it.

First Use Experience

I took the Allen 18494 ThermoBlock Gun Rest Prefilled Front and Rear Bag Endura with Rubber Tread Grip to my local outdoor shooting range for its initial test. The day was slightly overcast with a mild breeze, providing a good mix of conditions. I used it with a variety of rifles, from a lightweight .22LR to a heavier .308.

The bags performed admirably in providing a stable and consistent shooting platform. The rubber tread grips kept the bags firmly in place on the shooting bench, and the shape of the bags allowed for good firearm support. No issues or surprises after first use.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of regular use, the Allen 18494 ThermoBlock Gun Rest Prefilled Front and Rear Bag Endura with Rubber Tread Grip is holding up remarkably well. There are no signs of significant wear and tear on the Endura fabric or the stitching. The bags still maintain their shape and provide excellent support.

Maintenance is minimal; I simply wipe them down with a damp cloth after each use to remove any dirt or debris. Compared to my previous sandbag setup, the Allen bags are a significant improvement in terms of convenience and consistency. I would recommend this shooting rest to others.
