AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount Review

Let’s Talk About AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount

The AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount promises a low-profile, robust solution for attaching a sling to any firearm equipped with M-LOK compatible attachment points. Made by AIM Sports Inc, it boasts high-grade, hard black anodized aluminum construction and includes all necessary hardware for easy installation, all at a surprisingly affordable price point. I decided to give it a try when building out a lightweight AR pistol, needing a reliable and unobtrusive sling mounting solution.

My old go-to QD sling mount was adding unnecessary bulk and rattling around, and I wanted something more streamlined. The AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount seemed to fit the bill. Upon receiving the package, I was immediately struck by the mount’s compact size and the heft of the aluminum.

Compared to the Magpul M-LOK QD Sling Mount and the BCMGunfighter M-LOK Sling Mount, the AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount stood out for its simplicity and significantly lower cost. I picked it because I was trying to stay on budget for this particular build, and the user reviews, while mixed, suggested decent functionality for the price. I was cautiously optimistic but also aware that I might be sacrificing some quality for the affordability.

My first impression was one of pleasant surprise. The finish looked clean, and the included hardware seemed decent. However, I did have a slight concern about the long-term durability of the swivel loop’s finish, based on some user feedback I had read.

Real-World Testing: Putting AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount to the Test

First Use Experience

I tested the AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount at my local outdoor shooting range, integrating it into my AR pistol build. The day was relatively dry, with a slight breeze, perfect conditions for sighting in the new optic and running some drills. Mounting was straightforward; the included wrench made quick work of securing it to the M-LOK slots on my handguard.

During the initial range session, I ran a variety of drills, focusing on transitioning between targets and moving with the sling. The mount held securely, and the swivel allowed for a good range of motion, preventing the sling from binding. I was initially pleased with the performance, particularly considering the low price point.

There were no immediate issues after the first session. However, I noticed a slight squeak in the swivel loop when moving quickly, which could be a potential issue for hunting or tactical situations where silence is critical.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of use, including multiple range trips and a weekend backcountry camping trip, the AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount has held up reasonably well, but some weaknesses have emerged. There are some noticeable signs of wear and tear on the swivel loop’s finish. Specifically, the black anodizing has begun to chip and wear away where the sling hardware makes contact.

Cleaning is simple, requiring just a quick wipe down with a lightly oiled cloth. However, I’ve noticed a slight increase in the squeaking of the swivel. I addressed it with a small amount of lubricant.

In comparison to other sling mounts I’ve used, like the Magpul mentioned earlier, the AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount doesn’t offer the same level of refinement or long-term durability. While it functions adequately for range use, I wouldn’t trust it in high-stress, demanding situations where failure is not an option. It meets basic expectations but doesn’t exceed them in any area.

Breaking Down the Features of AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount

Specifications

The AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount is specifically designed for use with firearms featuring M-LOK attachment points. Its key feature is the integrated sling swivel loop, providing a direct attachment point for slings utilizing HK-style hooks or similar hardware. The mount’s construction utilizes high-grade hard black anodized aluminum.

The mount is finished in black. Its compatibility extends to all M-LOK Spec attachment points. The mount includes all necessary mounting hardware and wrenches.

These specifications are important because they dictate the mount’s compatibility, durability, and ease of installation. The M-LOK compatibility ensures it can be used on a wide range of modern rifles and carbines. The aluminum construction provides a good balance of strength and weight, and the included hardware simplifies the installation process.

Performance & Functionality

The AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount performs its primary function adequately: providing a secure sling attachment point. The swivel allows for a decent range of motion, but the squeaking issue is a drawback. The mount’s strength is acceptable for most range and recreational use scenarios.

However, the finish wear raises concerns about long-term durability and corrosion resistance. While it meets basic needs, the mount lacks the refined feel and robustness of higher-end options. I believe AIM Sports Inc could improve overall durability by using a more robust finish on the metal loop.

Design & Ergonomics

The build quality is adequate for the price. It features a streamlined design that minimizes bulk.

The AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount is user-friendly and requires no special tools or skills for installation. The low-profile design ensures it doesn’t interfere with other accessories or the shooter’s grip.

Durability & Maintenance

Based on my testing, the AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount is likely to last for a reasonable amount of time with casual use. However, I don’t anticipate it holding up well under heavy, continuous use or in harsh environments.

Maintenance is simple, but addressing the squeaking issue requires periodic lubrication. Long-term repairs may be difficult due to the riveted construction of the swivel loop.

Accessories and Customization Options

The AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount doesn’t offer much in the way of customization options. It is essentially a fixed sling attachment point.

It is compatible with any sling that utilizes standard sling swivels, HK-style hooks, or similar attachment hardware. There are no included accessories beyond the necessary mounting hardware and wrench.

Who Should Buy AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount?

The AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount is perfect for budget-conscious shooters who need a simple, functional sling attachment point for range use or recreational shooting. It’s a good option for those who are building a budget-friendly AR and don’t want to spend a lot on accessories.

Those who should skip this product are users who require a highly durable and reliable sling mount for tactical applications, hunting in harsh conditions, or any situation where failure is not an option. They should invest in a higher-quality mount from a more reputable brand.

A must-have accessory would be a high-quality gun lubricant to minimize the swivel loop squeaking noise. Consider replacing the sling swivel loop with one from a different manufacturer if you want to improve long-term durability.

Conclusion on AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount

The AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount offers a compelling value proposition for shooters on a tight budget. It provides a functional and easy-to-install sling attachment point at a fraction of the cost of higher-end options.

However, its long-term durability and potential for noise are drawbacks to consider. The price is generally justified, especially for casual users.

I would recommend this product to those who understand its limitations and are primarily focused on affordability. If you need a bombproof, ultra-reliable sling mount, look elsewhere. But if you need something that works and won’t break the bank, the AIM Sports Inc MLOK Sling Swivel Mount is worth considering.
