Let’s Talk About AIM Sports Inc AR15 Forward Assist
The AIM Sports Inc AR15 Forward Assist is a seemingly simple component, yet it plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability of an AR-15 platform. This small but mighty piece is designed to manually push the bolt carrier group forward, ensuring the rifle chambers a round fully when the action doesn’t quite close on its own. It’s manufactured by AIM Sports Inc, a company known for providing affordable AR-15 parts and accessories.
My journey to finding a suitable forward assist started after experiencing a few failures-to-battery during a particularly dusty range session. I wanted a reliable forward assist to ensure positive lockup in adverse conditions, without breaking the bank. The AIM Sports Inc AR15 Forward Assist seemed to offer the perfect balance of functionality and affordability.
Upon opening the small package, I was immediately struck by its simple, no-frills design. The finish was clean, and the component felt solid, suggesting reasonable build quality. For a part costing less than $15, my expectations weren’t high, but it appeared well-made for its price point.
Compared to other forward assists I’ve used in the past, such as those included in complete upper receiver kits from brands like Aero Precision or Bravo Company Manufacturing (BCM), the AIM Sports Inc AR15 Forward Assist lacks the premium fit and finish. However, those options come with a considerably higher price tag. For a budget-friendly build, this seemed like a viable option. My initial impression was cautiously optimistic; it looked like it could do the job, and the price was certainly right.
Real-World Testing: Putting AIM Sports Inc AR15 Forward Assist to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the AIM Sports Inc AR15 Forward Assist during a training session at an outdoor shooting range known for its variable weather conditions. It was a moderately dusty day, which made it a good environment to test the forward assist’s functionality. Installation was straightforward using standard AR-15 armorer’s tools.
During the range session, I intentionally induced a few failures-to-battery by lightly riding the charging handle. Each time, the forward assist engaged smoothly, pushing the bolt carrier fully into battery. It was easy to access and use even with gloved hands. After the session, I noted no visible signs of wear or damage on the forward assist itself.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use and approximately 500 rounds fired through the rifle, the AIM Sports Inc AR15 Forward Assist has continued to perform reliably. I have not experienced any malfunctions related to the forward assist assembly. The finish has held up surprisingly well, showing minimal signs of wear despite frequent use.
Cleaning and maintenance are straightforward; a quick wipe-down with a cloth and some CLP is all that’s required. It has proven to be a dependable component in my AR-15 setup. It outperforms my initial, admittedly low, expectations based on its price point.
