First Impressions of Accura Bullets Premium Powerbond Bullets .45 cal .451in 230 gr HP
For over a decade, I’ve been immersed in the world of outdoor and tactical gear, and a critical component in that world is reliable ammunition. When I first encountered the Accura Bullets Premium Powerbond Bullets .45 cal .451in 230 gr HP, I was intrigued by their claim of match-grade accuracy at a fraction of the price. Could these bullets truly deliver on that promise?
I’ve been reloading .45 ACP for years, primarily for my 1911s and occasionally for my carbine. My biggest challenge was finding a bullet that offered consistent accuracy and reliable expansion without breaking the bank; bulk FMJ was fine for practice, but I wanted something better for self-defense and hunting small game. Accura Bullets seemed like a potential solution.
Upon receiving the 500-count box, I was immediately impressed with the consistent appearance of the bullets. Each bullet was uniformly shaped, and the hollow point cavity was clean and well-defined; the copper jacket appeared to be firmly bonded to the lead core. The weight felt consistent, which is always a good sign when assessing the quality of reloading components.
Compared to similar offerings from Hornady and Sierra, the Accura Bullets were noticeably more budget-friendly. While I’ve had great experiences with the more expensive brands, the cost often limited my ability to practice extensively with them; I picked the Accura Bullets hoping to achieve similar performance at a more accessible price point. Initial impression? Cautiously optimistic.
Real-World Testing: Putting Accura Bullets Premium Powerbond Bullets .45 cal .451in 230 gr HP to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing took place at my local shooting range, under controlled conditions. I loaded the Accura Bullets using my standard .45 ACP load data and proceeded to test them in two of my 1911s: a custom build and a stock Springfield Armory.
Performance was consistent across both firearms; accuracy was surprisingly good, with groupings of around 2 inches at 25 yards. The bullets fed reliably and showed no signs of keyholing or instability, I even tried them out in a few drills. There were no jams or failures to feed, even with rapid firing.
Extended Use & Reliability
Over the next few months, I put several hundred of the Accura Bullets through their paces in various scenarios. I used them in several training sessions involving movement and unconventional shooting positions.
The bullets continued to perform consistently, with no noticeable degradation in accuracy or reliability. I also subjected a few recovered bullets to a rudimentary expansion test in water jugs; the expansion was consistent and significant, indicating good terminal performance. Cleaning my firearms after shooting these bullets was no different than with other jacketed hollow points; there was no excessive fouling or leading. Overall, they’ve outperformed my expectations given the price point.
