Let’s Dive into Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6004-293-542
The Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6004-293-542 is a dedicated tactical holster designed for left-handed users needing secure weapon retention and rapid deployment. Manufactured by Safariland, a trusted name in law enforcement and military gear, this holster features their renowned SLS (Self Locking System) rotating hood, SAFARILAMINATE construction, and a robust leg shroud. The foliage green STX finish offers a low-profile, tactical aesthetic that blends well in various environments.
As a left-handed operator with over a decade in tactical applications, I’ve struggled to find holsters offering both security and ease of access. My primary concern was a holster that could withstand rigorous training and potential real-world scenarios while allowing for a smooth, intuitive draw. I was also seeking a foliage green holster to match my existing gear and blend into woodland environments.
Unboxing the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6004-293-542, I was immediately impressed by the rugged construction and attention to detail. The SAFARILAMINATE material felt exceptionally durable, and the SLS hood mechanism operated smoothly and positively. The foliage green STX finish had a matte texture, providing a good grip surface and minimizing light reflection.
I considered the Blackhawk! Serpa Level 3 Tactical Holster and the Galco Miami Classic II Shoulder Holster but chose the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6004-293-542 for its superior retention system, leg-mounted stability, and color option. The Serpa’s trigger finger release worried me under stress, and the Miami Classic wasn’t ideal for dynamic movement. This holster seemed to strike the right balance between security, accessibility, and tactical utility.
My initial impression was one of excitement and cautious optimism. Safariland’s reputation is solid, but I was eager to field-test the holster and verify that it lived up to the hype. It certainly looked the part, and the initial feel was excellent, but only real-world use would reveal its true capabilities.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6004-293-542 to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6004-293-542 at a local shooting range and during force-on-force training exercises. The range allowed for static draw practice, while the force-on-force drills simulated real-world scenarios requiring movement and weapon manipulation. The holster was specifically fitted with my Heckler & Koch USP45 Compact .45ACP.
During the range sessions, the SLS system proved intuitive and reliable, even with gloved hands. The draw stroke was smooth and consistent, and the weapon was securely retained when moving. In the force-on-force exercises, the holster held up well under stress, keeping the weapon secure during running, crawling, and simulated grappling.
The only initial issue I encountered was adjusting the leg straps for optimal comfort and stability. After a few minor tweaks, the holster felt secure and didn’t shift excessively during dynamic movements. The leg shroud’s design prevented the holster from digging into my thigh, even during extended periods of wear.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use in training and field exercises, the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6004-293-542 has proven to be exceptionally durable and reliable. Maintaining the holster is simple: a quick wipe-down with a damp cloth removes dirt and debris. I occasionally apply a small amount of silicone lubricant to the SLS hood mechanism to ensure smooth operation. It continues to perform flawlessly.
Compared to previous tactical holsters I’ve used, the Safariland 6004 SLS Tactical Holster – STX Foliage Green, Left Hand 6004-293-542 significantly outperforms them in terms of retention, durability, and comfort. It provides a level of security and accessibility that inspires confidence in high-stress situations. It has become my go-to tactical holster.
