R and W Targets Alert Deer Target Replaceable Vital Review

Let’s Talk About R and W Targets Alert Deer Target Replaceable Vital

The R and W Targets Alert Deer Target Replaceable Vital aims to bring realistic practice to the archery and hunting community. From R and W Targets, a name synonymous with quality in target design, this 3D deer target promises to withstand countless shots while offering the realism needed for honing your skills. I decided to take a closer look, as I needed a target that could handle repeated broadhead use without completely falling apart after a single season.

I’ve been setting up training scenarios for myself and others for over a decade, so I need a target that’s not only durable but also mimics the size and shape of a real deer. I remember the days of stuffing burlap sacks with rags; those days are thankfully long gone. Unboxing the R and W Targets Alert Deer Target Replaceable Vital was promising; the size was realistic, and the foam felt dense.

Compared to other 3D targets I’ve used, like the Rinehart Woodland Buck or the Delta McKenzie Full Rut Buck, the R and W Targets Alert Deer Target Replaceable Vital stood out due to its advertised replaceable vital section. The replaceable section was the deal maker, offering the promise of longevity and reduced costs in the long run. My initial impression was one of cautious optimism; if the foam held up and the vital section was truly replaceable and affordable, this could be a game-changer.

Real-World Testing: Putting R and W Targets Alert Deer Target Replaceable Vital to the Test

First Use Experience

My first outing with the R and W Targets Alert Deer Target Replaceable Vital was at my backyard archery range, a setup I use regularly to stay sharp. I was testing with a compound bow at 40 yards, simulating shots I’d typically take from a treestand. The target performed admirably, stopping arrows cleanly and holding its shape well.

The weather was slightly damp, and the target’s Weathercoat water resistant finish seemed to do its job, as water beaded up and rolled off the surface. The target was easy to set up and move around, even after a light rain. After a few hours of shooting, the arrow penetration was consistent, and the target didn’t show any signs of significant damage.

Extended Use & Reliability

After three months of consistent use, the R and W Targets Alert Deer Target Replaceable Vital has proven to be a reliable training tool. While the target shows signs of wear, the foam has maintained its integrity, and arrow penetration remains consistent. Removing arrows is still relatively easy, a crucial factor for high-volume practice.

The vital section, though showing wear, is still functioning as intended, and the compression loc keys are still holding strong. Cleaning has been simple, mostly involving wiping down the surface with a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris. Compared to my previous experiences with cheaper targets that quickly degrade and fall apart, the R and W Targets Alert Deer Target Replaceable Vital is proving to be a much more durable investment.
