Let’s Dive into Butler Creek Rifle/Shotgun Comfort Stretch Sling
The Butler Creek Rifle/Shotgun Comfort Stretch Sling promises to alleviate the burden of carrying a rifle or shotgun for extended periods. Butler Creek, a trusted name in firearm accessories, aims to deliver comfort and stability through its innovative design. Its key features include stretchable neoprene construction, non-slip grippers, and compatibility with various firearm types.
My need for a comfortable sling arose during a particularly grueling elk hunt last season. My shoulder was bruised and aching after lugging my rifle up and down steep terrain. I was desperate for a sling that could actually reduce the felt weight and stay put on my shoulder, regardless of the conditions.
Upon unboxing the Butler Creek Rifle/Shotgun Comfort Stretch Sling, I was immediately impressed with the feel of the neoprene. The material felt soft and pliable, promising a welcome change from the stiff nylon slings I’d used in the past. The non-slip grippers looked promising, and the overall construction appeared solid.
I considered the Magpul MS4 Dual QD Sling Gen2 and the Blue Force Gear Vickers Combat Applications Sling. Ultimately, I chose the Butler Creek for its combination of affordability and the promise of superior comfort thanks to the stretchable neoprene. The others seemed more tactical, but I was prioritizing comfort for long hunting days.
My first impression was one of cautious optimism. It seemed like a well-made sling that addressed my key concerns, but I knew the true test would be in the field. I was excited to see if it could actually live up to its claims of reducing felt weight and providing a secure, non-slip carry.
Real-World Testing: Putting Butler Creek Rifle/Shotgun Comfort Stretch Sling to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Butler Creek Rifle/Shotgun Comfort Stretch Sling on a weekend hog hunt in central Texas. The terrain was thick and thorny, requiring frequent shouldering and un-shouldering of my rifle. The weather was humid and hot, creating a sweaty environment that would test the sling’s non-slip capabilities.
The sling performed admirably in these challenging conditions. The neoprene stretched and conformed to my shoulder, distributing the weight of my rifle more evenly. The non-slip grippers kept the sling securely in place, even when I was sweating profusely.
It took me a few minutes to adjust the sling to my preferred length. Once adjusted, it was relatively easy to slip on and off. There were no major issues or surprises during this first use.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use, the Butler Creek Rifle/Shotgun Comfort Stretch Sling has proven to be a reliable and comfortable companion on numerous hunting trips. It has endured rain, mud, and the general wear and tear of outdoor use without showing any significant signs of damage. The stitching remains intact, and the neoprene has retained its elasticity.
Cleaning the sling is simple; I usually just wipe it down with a damp cloth after each use. Occasionally, I’ll use a mild detergent to remove any stubborn stains. The sling has held up well to this regular maintenance.
Compared to my previous experiences with nylon slings, the Butler Creek is a significant improvement in terms of comfort. The neoprene cushioning makes a noticeable difference during long carries. It outperforms those older slings in both comfort and stability.
