The Quake 50002-5 Claw Sling OD Green Made a Bold First Impression
The Quake 50002-5 Claw Sling OD Green promises a simple, yet effective solution for firearm carry. Quake Industries aims to provide a no-nonsense sling that stays put, allowing the user to focus on the task at hand. As someone who has dealt with countless slings over the years, ranging from basic webbing straps to heavily padded tactical models, I was eager to see if this relatively inexpensive sling could live up to its “all grip, no slip” claim.
Years of guiding hunters and instructing tactical courses have taught me the importance of a reliable sling. Too many times I’ve witnessed hunters fumble with ill-fitting or slippery slings when a shot presented itself. This led me to seek out slings that prioritize stability and ease of use above all else.
My first impression upon receiving the Quake 50002-5 Claw Sling OD Green was positive. The OD Green color is classic and understated, and the sling felt surprisingly robust for its price. Compared to other budget slings I’ve used, this one seemed to offer a more substantial feel, the odor-resistant pad hinting at a higher level of quality.
I had been contemplating between this sling and a similar offering from Uncle Mike’s and a more expensive padded sling from Magpul. I chose the Quake 50002-5 Claw Sling OD Green because I wanted to test a more minimalist design without breaking the bank. I was hoping for a functional sling that would keep my rifle secure without adding unnecessary bulk or complexity.
Initially, I was pleased with the feel of the Quake 50002-5 Claw Sling OD Green. The material felt durable, and the “claw” pad seemed like it would indeed grip well. My initial hope was that Quake had produced a simple, reliable sling that would live up to its promises of providing superior stability without the added weight and cost of more complex designs.
Real-World Testing: Putting Quake 50002-5 Claw Sling OD Green to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Quake 50002-5 Claw Sling OD Green during a weekend hog hunt in central Texas. The terrain was a mix of thick brush and open fields, demanding a sling that could keep my rifle secure while navigating challenging conditions. I spent a significant portion of the hunt traversing through dense undergrowth, and later sat for hours glassing open areas.
The conditions were dry but dusty, which can test the grip of any sling. The Quake sling initially performed well, the Claw pad preventing the rifle from slipping off my shoulder even when moving through thick brush. I quickly appreciated how easily I could bring the rifle to bear.
The only minor issue after the first outing was a slight adjustment needed to the swivel positions. The swivels took a bit of breaking in, but once adjusted, felt solid and reliable.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the Quake 50002-5 Claw Sling OD Green has proven to be a surprisingly durable and reliable piece of gear. It’s accompanied me on multiple hunts, range trips, and even a few hiking expeditions. The sling has held up remarkably well, showing minimal signs of wear and tear.
The pad has retained its grip, even after being exposed to mud, sweat, and UV radiation. Cleaning is a breeze; a simple wipe down with a damp cloth is usually all that’s needed. Compared to some of my more complex slings with multiple straps and buckles, the Quake sling’s simplicity is a major advantage.
While a more padded sling might offer slightly greater comfort during all-day carries of heavier rifles, the Quake 50002-5 Claw Sling OD Green has consistently outperformed my expectations in terms of reliability and ease of use. It excels in its intended purpose: keeping the rifle securely in place and ready for action.
