The Safariland 7378593411 7378-7TS-ALS SafariSeven Belt HK VP40 Right Hand Made a Bold First Impression
The Safariland 7378593411 7378-7TS-ALS SafariSeven Belt HK VP40 Right Hand holster isn’t just another piece of gear; it’s a statement. It promises quick access, secure retention, and exceptional durability, all while maintaining a low profile. This holster aims to deliver confidence in any situation.
I was searching for a reliable and comfortable everyday carry (EDC) holster for my HK VP40. I needed something that would hold the firearm securely but allow for a fast, smooth draw in a potential self-defense scenario. The Safariland name carries weight, and the combination of the 7TS SafariSeven material and ALS locking system immediately caught my attention.
Upon unboxing, the first thing that struck me was the holster’s robust yet surprisingly lightweight construction. The SafariSeven material felt incredibly durable and had a smooth, almost slick texture. The molded design seemed precisely fitted for the HK VP40.
I considered options from Blackhawk and Galco, both reputable brands, but ultimately chose the Safariland due to its ALS retention and reputation for duty-grade performance. While others offered similar features, the Safariland‘s combination of advanced materials and active retention seemed like the best fit for my needs. I wanted that additional layer of confidence, especially during dynamic movements.
My first impression was one of cautious optimism. The holster felt well-made and looked like it could live up to its claims, but the true test would be in real-world use. I was excited to see how it performed under pressure.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 7378593411 7378-7TS-ALS SafariSeven Belt HK VP40 Right Hand to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing took place at my local shooting range during a practical pistol session. I focused on drawing and re-holstering drills under time pressure. The weather was typical for a late summer day: warm and humid.
The holster performed admirably. The ALS (Automatic Locking System) engaged with a reassuring click upon holstering, and the release lever was easily accessible and intuitive to operate. The draw stroke was smooth and consistent, even with sweaty hands. I found the cant adjustability to be very helpful.
The only slight issue was adjusting to the draw motion at first. The ALS requires a deliberate thumb press and upward pull, which took a little practice to master smoothly. Once I internalized the motion, however, it became second nature.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of carrying the Safariland 7378593411 7378-7TS-ALS SafariSeven Belt HK VP40 Right Hand daily, I can confidently say it’s a reliable piece of gear. It has become my go-to holster.
Durability has been excellent. Despite constant rubbing against clothing and exposure to sweat, the SafariSeven material shows no signs of wear or deformation. The holster has maintained its shape and retention even after being subjected to bumps and scrapes.
Maintenance is incredibly simple. A quick wipe down with a damp cloth is all it takes to remove any dirt or grime. The SafariSeven material resists absorbing moisture, preventing rust or corrosion on the firearm. Compared to leather holsters I’ve used in the past, this is a significant improvement in terms of upkeep. I now spend more time at the range, and less time caring for my holster.
