The Safariland 7378477411 7378-7TS-ALS SafariSeven Belt Sig P226R Right Hand Made a Bold First Impression
As a seasoned gear specialist, I’ve cycled through countless holsters, each promising speed, security, and comfort. But the Safariland 7378477411 7378-7TS-ALS SafariSeven Belt Sig P226R Right Hand immediately caught my eye with its unique SafariSeven construction and the promise of a rapid Automatic Locking System (ALS) draw for my Sig P226R.
For years, I’ve been struggling to find a holster that truly balances retention with a smooth, fast draw, especially when training in varied environments. My older leather holsters were comfortable but lacked security, while some Kydex models were secure but chewed up my pistol’s finish.
Upon unboxing, the first thing I noticed was the holster’s distinct texture and lightweight feel, thanks to the Safariland SafariSeven nylon blend. The build quality appeared robust, with clean lines and a secure fit for my Sig P226R.
Compared to my Blade-Tech Kydex holster and my Galco leather pancake holster, the Safariland seemed to offer a superior blend of both worlds. The Blade-Tech offered similar speed, but lacked the inherent gun protection. The Galco was comfortable, but didn’t offer active retention.
My initial reaction was excitement mixed with cautious optimism; could this holster finally deliver on all fronts?
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 7378477411 7378-7TS-ALS SafariSeven Belt Sig P226R Right Hand to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Safariland 7378477411 7378-7TS-ALS SafariSeven Belt Sig P226R Right Hand at my local shooting range during a defensive pistol course. The conditions were dry and sunny, perfect for putting the ALS system through its paces.
The draw stroke was surprisingly intuitive; the thumb release of the ALS became second nature after just a few repetitions. I experienced no issues with retention, even during dynamic drills that involved running and drawing from different positions.
The only initial hurdle was adjusting the belt attachment to achieve the perfect ride height and cant for my preference.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, including weekly range sessions and participation in two weekend-long tactical training courses, the Safariland 7378477411 7378-7TS-ALS SafariSeven Belt Sig P226R Right Hand has proven to be exceptionally durable. There are no visible signs of wear and tear, even after being exposed to rain, mud, and the usual bumps and scrapes encountered during training.
Cleaning is a breeze; a quick wipe-down with a damp cloth is all it takes to remove dirt and grime. The SafariSeven material doesn’t seem to absorb moisture or oils, which is a significant advantage over traditional leather holsters.
Compared to my previous holsters, the Safariland stands out for its combination of security, speed, and gun protection. It has significantly exceeded my expectations, particularly in terms of its durability and low maintenance requirements.
