Real-World Testing: Putting Birchwood Casey LongGun Service Mat 13″ x 54″ Leather to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial test took place in my well-lit gun room during a routine cleaning session of my Winchester Model 70. The leather surface provided ample space and a soft cushion, preventing scratches to both the rifle and the table underneath. The mat stayed put during cleaning, thanks to its textured underside preventing slippage.
The leather proved surprisingly resilient to solvents and oils. Accidental spills wiped away cleanly, leaving no visible stains. This resistance was a welcome surprise, dispelling my initial concerns about leather’s susceptibility to harsh chemicals.
Using the mat was effortless. The size was ideal, providing sufficient space without being cumbersome. After the first cleaning, I knew this would become my go-to surface for any firearm maintenance.

After several months of regular use, the Birchwood Casey LongGun Service Mat 13″ x 54″ Leather has held up remarkably well. There are no signs of tearing or significant wear on the leather surface. The texture remains consistent, and the mat continues to provide a stable, protective work area.
