The Kleen-Bore Super Shooter Cleaning Patches Cotton 25 Per Bag 3″ Square 12-16 Gauge Made a Bold First Impression
For over a decade, I’ve navigated the world of outdoor and tactical gear, constantly seeking reliable tools and equipment. Firearm maintenance is paramount, and that includes the often-overlooked cleaning patches. Enter the Kleen-Bore Super Shooter Cleaning Patches Cotton 25 Per Bag 3″ Square 12-16 Gauge: a seemingly simple product with the potential to make or break a cleaning session.
I’ve been using bulk shop rags for years, cutting them to size, but the lint was becoming a real issue, especially with tighter chokes. This lint would accumulate in the action, causing jams and malfunctions. I needed a pre-cut, lint-free solution.
Upon receiving the small, unassuming bag, I was immediately struck by the simplicity of the product. The patches felt soft and absorbent, definitely a step up from my makeshift solutions. While there are pre-cut patches from Hoppe’s and Remington on the market, the Kleen-Bore offering seemed to strike a balance between quality and price.
Honestly, I was cautiously optimistic. Could something this basic really improve my cleaning routine? Only time and a dirty shotgun would tell.
Real-World Testing: Putting Kleen-Bore Super Shooter Cleaning Patches Cotton 25 Per Bag 3″ Square 12-16 Gauge to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground was my well-worn 12-gauge over-under, fresh from a muddy sporting clays session. The gun was visibly dirty, with powder residue and plastic wad fouling evident in the barrels. I used the Kleen-Bore Super Shooter Cleaning Patches with my standard bore solvent and a cleaning rod.
The patches immediately impressed me with their absorbency and their ability to conform to the bore’s contours. They fit snugly with my 12 gauge bore brush and jag. The tight fit ensured thorough cleaning without excessive force.
There were no surprises, which, in this case, was a good thing. The patches performed exactly as expected, effectively removing fouling without leaving excessive lint behind.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, I can confidently say that the Kleen-Bore Super Shooter Cleaning Patches have become a staple in my cleaning kit. They consistently deliver excellent results, maintaining the bore of my shotguns in pristine condition. I use them for everything from my trap gun to my tactical shotgun.
The patches exhibit minimal wear and tear, even after repeated use and exposure to harsh solvents. They don’t fray easily and maintain their structural integrity throughout the cleaning process. Storing the patches in my range bag, exposed to heat and humidity, hasn’t degraded their quality.
Compared to my previous method of cutting shop rags, the Kleen-Bore patches are a significant upgrade. The reduced lint and consistent size make cleaning faster and more efficient.
Breaking Down the Features of Kleen-Bore Super Shooter Cleaning Patches Cotton 25 Per Bag 3″ Square 12-16 Gauge
Specifications
The Kleen-Bore Super Shooter Cleaning Patches Cotton 25 Per Bag 3″ Square 12-16 Gauge boasts a few key specifications. They are specifically designed for 12-16 gauge shotguns. The patches are made of cotton flannel.
Each bag contains 25 patches, and each patch measures 3″ square. The 3″ square size is ideal for wrapping around a standard shotgun cleaning jag or brush. The cotton flannel material provides excellent absorbency and scrubbing power, while remaining gentle on the bore.
These specifications matter because they directly impact the effectiveness and ease of use. The correct gauge compatibility ensures a snug fit, maximizing cleaning efficiency. The cotton flannel construction strikes a balance between absorbency and durability.
Performance & Functionality
The Kleen-Bore Super Shooter Cleaning Patches perform their primary function exceptionally well: cleaning the bore of a shotgun. They effectively remove powder residue, plastic wad fouling, and other debris, leaving a clean and protected surface. The absorbency of the cotton flannel allows them to soak up solvents and lubricants, ensuring thorough cleaning and proper lubrication.
The patches excel at removing stubborn fouling, especially in areas like forcing cones and choke tubes. The snug fit around a cleaning jag or brush allows for consistent pressure and effective scrubbing. Some patches are too thin to provide proper scrubbing pressure.
The only area for potential improvement would be increasing the patch count per bag. A larger quantity would reduce the frequency of reordering.
Design & Ergonomics
The Kleen-Bore Super Shooter Cleaning Patches feature a simple, functional design. The 3″ square size is perfect for standard shotgun cleaning tools, and the cotton flannel material is soft and absorbent. The patches are lightweight and easy to handle, making the cleaning process more comfortable.
The design is inherently user-friendly, requiring no special skills or tools. The lack of lint is a significant advantage, preventing residue from being left behind.
Durability & Maintenance
The Kleen-Bore Super Shooter Cleaning Patches are designed for single-use. They are not intended to be washed or reused. However, their durable construction ensures that they hold up well during the cleaning process.
The patches resist tearing and fraying, even when exposed to harsh solvents. Proper storage in a cool, dry place will prolong their shelf life.
Accessories and Customization Options
The Kleen-Bore Super Shooter Cleaning Patches Cotton 25 Per Bag 3″ Square 12-16 Gauge are designed to be used with standard shotgun cleaning tools. They are compatible with most cleaning rods, jags, and brushes designed for 12-16 gauge shotguns. The patches can also be used with a variety of solvents and lubricants, depending on the user’s preference.
While there are no specific customization options for the patches themselves, users can choose to pair them with different cleaning tools and solvents to achieve optimal results. For example, some shooters may prefer to use a copper brush for heavy fouling, while others may opt for a nylon brush for more delicate cleaning. The Kleen-Bore patches are also compatible with bore snakes, offering another cleaning option.
