ProSmith Universal Pistol Rod Review

The ProSmith Universal Pistol Rod Made a Bold First Impression

Let’s face it, cleaning a firearm isn’t exactly glamorous. But it’s a necessary ritual, one that directly impacts performance and longevity. So, when I started searching for a reliable pistol cleaning rod, the ProSmith Universal Pistol Rod immediately grabbed my attention.

My primary need was simple: a durable, effective cleaning rod that wouldn’t damage the rifling of my various pistols. I’d been using a cheap, multi-piece aluminum rod, and the threads were starting to strip. It was time for an upgrade.

Upon unboxing, the ProSmith Universal Pistol Rod felt noticeably more substantial than my previous rod. The stainless steel construction exuded quality, and the TufCoat finish was a welcome touch. I immediately noticed the Delrin handle, which felt comfortable and secure in my hand.

I considered a few other options. A bore snake was definitely in the running, but I wanted something with more scrubbing power for those stubborn carbon deposits. I also looked at some other stainless steel rods, but the ProSmith Universal Pistol Rod’s combination of features and price point was hard to beat.

My initial impression was positive. The ProSmith Universal Pistol Rod seemed like a well-built, thoughtful product, and I was eager to put it to the test. I was surprised at the quality given the relatively low price.

Real-World Testing: Putting ProSmith Universal Pistol Rod to the Test

First Use Experience

My first experience with the ProSmith Universal Pistol Rod was at my local indoor shooting range. I had just run about 200 rounds through my Glock 19, so it was definitely ready for a good cleaning. I wanted to see how well it could remove built up residue and if there would be any scratches.

The rod worked flawlessly. The Delrin handle provided a comfortable grip, and the screw-on bushing ensured a smooth, consistent cleaning motion. It moved through the barrel effortlessly, removing carbon fouling and lead deposits with ease. I could also see that the DuPont TufCoat worked to protect the inner lining of the barrel from scratches.

I encountered no issues during the cleaning process. The ProSmith Universal Pistol Rod felt sturdy and reliable, and I appreciated the ease with which I could attach and detach various cleaning jags and brushes. The universal compatibility was a huge plus as well.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of regular use, the ProSmith Universal Pistol Rod has proven to be a reliable and durable cleaning tool. I have now used the rod on several different pistol platforms. I now have confidence I will not need another pistol cleaning rod any time soon.

There are no signs of wear and tear. The stainless steel rod remains straight and true, and the TufCoat finish shows no signs of chipping or flaking. The Delrin handle is still as comfortable as it was on day one.

Maintenance is a breeze. A quick wipe down with a clean cloth after each use is all it takes to keep the ProSmith Universal Pistol Rod in top condition. Compared to my previous aluminum rod, the ProSmith Universal Pistol Rod is a significant upgrade in terms of durability and ease of maintenance. The previous aluminum rod bent easily and scratched.
