The RamRodz Cleaning Rod Adapter Rifle and Shotgun Multi-Caliber 8-32 Nylon 6 Per Pack Made a Bold First Impression
Cleaning firearms is a ritual, a necessity, and sometimes, a downright pain. For years, I’ve relied on the traditional cleaning rod and patches method, but I’ve always sought a more efficient and effective way to maintain my diverse collection of rifles and shotguns. Enter the RamRodz Cleaning Rod Adapter Rifle and Shotgun Multi-Caliber 8-32 Nylon 6 Per Pack, a seemingly simple solution promising cleaner barrels and a faster cleaning process. The RamRodz system intrigued me with its swab-based cleaning approach, offering a potential alternative to messy patches and tedious reloads.
What pushed me toward this product was the need for a more streamlined cleaning process, especially for my AR-15 and 12-gauge shotgun. Patch jag systems always seemed to leave lint and required a constant re-supply of clean patches, often ending up in a bulky bag. I wanted something simpler.
The packaging is straightforward and functional. Inside the package, you find six adapters: three green (for rifle/pistol calibers) and three orange (for shotgun gauges). The nylon 6 construction feels robust, and the vibrant colors make identification a breeze. The threaded insert appears well-seated and ready to take on the torque of a cleaning rod.
I considered the traditional jag and patch systems from brands like Hoppe’s and Tipton. Ultimately, the potential for a faster, more efficient cleaning process with RamRodz swayed me. I was cautiously optimistic – hoping for a cleaning revolution, but prepared for a gimmick.
Real-World Testing: Putting RamRodz Cleaning Rod Adapter Rifle and Shotgun Multi-Caliber 8-32 Nylon 6 Per Pack to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing ground was my well-worn AR-15 after a day at the range. The carbon fouling was heavy, a perfect test for the RamRodz. I easily screwed the green adapter onto my standard 8-32 cleaning rod. After pressing a RamRodz swab into the adapter, I applied some bore solvent and started cleaning from breech to muzzle.
The swab conformed well to the bore, and the solvent seemed to spread evenly. Removing the swab after exiting the barrel was simple. The spent swab was noticeably dirty, indicating it was indeed removing fouling. I found the process faster and less messy than using patches, and less fuss overall.
One minor issue arose: the swab occasionally needed a firm press to stay secure in the adapter during the cleaning process. However, this was easily remedied with a slightly more forceful insertion.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of regular use on various firearms, including my AR-15, 12-gauge shotgun, and .22LR rifle, the RamRodz Cleaning Rod Adapters have held up remarkably well. The nylon construction shows no signs of cracking or deformation, even after repeated exposure to solvents. The thread has not worn out.
Maintenance is virtually nonexistent. Simply wipe off any excess solvent from the adapter after use. The RamRodz system shines in its simplicity.
Compared to my previous reliance on patches and jags, the RamRodz system is a clear winner. It’s faster, cleaner, and more convenient. It’s replaced my patch and jag system on my cleaning bench.
