The KLEEN BR UNIV HG/RFL/SG CLN KIT Made a Bold First Impression
I’ve seen a lot of cleaning kits come and go in my decade-plus in this industry. Most promise the world and deliver, well, a small, inadequate globe. So, when I picked up the KLEEN BR UNIV HG/RFL/SG CLN KIT, manufactured by Kleen-Bore, I was cautiously optimistic.
For years, I’ve advocated for diligent firearm maintenance; a clean gun is a reliable gun. I was looking for a universal kit that could handle everything from my 9mm pistol to my 12-gauge shotgun. The promise of a comprehensive cleaning solution for $26.99 intrigued me.
The KLEEN BR UNIV HG/RFL/SG CLN KIT comes in a simple, functional storage box. Inside, everything seemed well-organized and surprisingly complete for the price. Compared to some of the minimalist kits I’ve seen, this felt like a genuine attempt to provide a comprehensive cleaning solution.
I’ve used more expensive kits from Otis and Real Avid in the past. While those kits offer more specialized tools and a higher perceived quality, their price points are significantly higher. This kit seemed like a budget-friendly alternative that could potentially provide similar functionality.
My initial impression was one of pleasant surprise. The kit seemed well-organized, and the components felt more substantial than I expected. I was excited to put it to the test and see how it performed.
Real-World Testing: Putting KLEEN BR UNIV HG/RFL/SG CLN KIT to the Test
First Use Experience
I took the KLEEN BR UNIV HG/RFL/SG CLN KIT to my local shooting range after a particularly messy day with my AR-15. I wanted to see how it handled carbon buildup after a long shooting session. The range offered a controlled environment for evaluating its effectiveness.
The kit performed surprisingly well in cleaning the AR-15. It struggled slightly with the tightest spots in the gas system. However, it proved adequate for general cleaning under normal conditions.
The kit was relatively easy to use, even for someone new to gun cleaning. The included instructions were clear enough, though I always recommend watching a few online videos for best practices. No major issues arose during the first-time use, which I considered a success.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of using the KLEEN BR UNIV HG/RFL/SG CLN KIT on various firearms, I have a better sense of its long-term reliability. It’s become a regular part of my post-shooting routine. It hasn’t replaced my higher-end kits completely, but it’s earned its place.
The kit has held up well, although some of the smaller brushes show signs of wear after multiple uses. The storage box has proven durable enough to withstand being tossed around in my range bag. Regular cleaning and light oiling of the included components help prolong its lifespan.
Compared to some of the more expensive kits I’ve used, the KLEEN BR UNIV HG/RFL/SG CLN KIT is a solid performer for its price. It may not have the bells and whistles, but it gets the job done consistently. For basic firearm maintenance, it exceeds expectations.
