Real Avid AVGCKAR15 Gun Boss Review

The Real Avid AVGCKAR15 Gun Boss Made a Bold First Impression

I’ve seen a lot of cleaning kits in my decade-plus working with tactical gear. So when the Real Avid AVGCKAR15 Gun Boss landed on my workbench, I approached it with a healthy dose of skepticism. My main objective was straightforward: find a compact, reliable cleaning kit specifically tailored for the AR-15 platform that I could throw in my range bag and not worry about.

Having witnessed countless inferior kits fail under pressure, I needed something robust. The Real Avid AR15 Gun Boss aims to be an all-in-one solution, and my initial examination focused on its build quality and the comprehensiveness of its components.

Unboxing the Real Avid AVGCKAR15 Gun Boss, I was immediately impressed by the compact, well-organized case. The individual components were snug and clearly labeled, giving me a sense of order and purpose. It felt like a significant step up from the disorganized jumble of brushes and solvents I was used to. Compared to standalone kits from Hoppe’s and Otis, which often require supplementary purchases to fully address the AR-15’s unique cleaning needs, the Gun Boss seemed to offer a more streamlined approach. I had high hopes, but range time would tell.

I was cautiously optimistic but also wary of the numerous cleaning kits that promised the world and delivered only frustration. This Real Avid kit had a lot to prove, but my first impression was definitely a positive one.

Real-World Testing: Putting Real Avid AVGCKAR15 Gun Boss to the Test

First Use Experience

My first outing with the Real Avid AVGCKAR15 Gun Boss was at my local outdoor shooting range. I spent the morning running drills with my AR-15, putting several hundred rounds downrange in fairly dusty conditions. I wanted to see how the kit would perform after a solid session.

Cleaning was a breeze, the included bore brush and cleaning patches quickly removed fouling. The small detailing brush was perfect for getting into the tight spots around the bolt carrier group. It was surprisingly efficient and far less messy than my usual separate bottle of solvent and collection of mismatched brushes.

I didn’t encounter any immediate issues; everything worked as intended, though I was paying close attention to the durability of the individual components.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of regular use, the Real Avid AVGCKAR15 Gun Boss has held up remarkably well. There’s no significant wear and tear on the case or the individual tools, despite being tossed around in my range bag. Cleaning the kit itself is simple; a quick wipe down after each use keeps everything in good condition.

Compared to my previous reliance on a hodgepodge of cleaning supplies, the Gun Boss is far superior in terms of convenience and organization. It’s a noticeable upgrade. However, one concerning user review noted a brush breaking during the first use, which prompted me to be extra diligent about checking the wear and tear.
