The ALLEN EZAIM 12″X12″ PLNKNG TRGT 9PK Made a Bold First Impression
The ALLEN EZAIM 12″X12″ PLNKNG TRGT 9PK might seem like a basic product, but good targets are essential for effective practice. As someone who’s spent over a decade fine-tuning my skills on the range, I understand the importance of a reliable and visible target. At a mere $4.49, the ALLEN targets promise affordability, but can they deliver on quality?
My search for these targets began with a simple need: inexpensive practice. I was tired of using old cardboard boxes and taping up paper scraps. I needed something readily available, consistently sized, and visually clear. While there are a million targets on the market from Birchwood Casey to Champion, the price point of the ALLEN targets made them worth a shot.
Unboxing the targets was, well, uneventful; it’s a pack of paper targets. However, I was initially impressed by the vibrancy of the assorted colors. The paper stock seemed decent enough, not overly flimsy, which is a common issue with budget targets. It was a far cry from the specialized IPSC targets I often use, but the build quality seemed satisfactory for casual plinking.
Compared to Shoot-N-C targets, these obviously lack the instant feedback of seeing the bullet holes light up. They’re also not as durable as silhouette targets made from thicker cardboard, like some from Champion. Ultimately, the ALLEN EZAIM 12″X12″ PLNKNG TRGT 9PK won out based purely on price and ease of use for high-volume practice. My first impression was cautiously optimistic: these targets seemed like a solid, no-frills option for affordable practice.
Real-World Testing: Putting ALLEN EZAIM 12″X12″ PLNKNG TRGT 9PK to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the ALLEN EZAIM 12″X12″ PLNKNG TRGT 9PK at my local outdoor range. I set them up at 25 yards using standard target stands. The weather was sunny, with a slight breeze, making target visibility excellent.
Using a variety of firearms, from a .22LR pistol to a 9mm carbine, the targets provided a clear aiming point. The bright colors made it easy to distinguish the target against the backdrop. The only slight annoyance was the occasional need to re-secure the target to the stand due to the wind.
There were no immediate issues after the first use. The paper held up reasonably well to repeated impacts, especially with smaller calibers. I was pleasantly surprised by their performance given the low price point.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of consistent use, the ALLEN EZAIM 12″X12″ PLNKNG TRGT 9PK continued to perform as expected. I used them in both indoor and outdoor settings, and the only significant factor affecting their usability was the weather. Rain, of course, made the paper sag and tear more easily.
The durability of the paper is about what you’d expect for the price: adequate. Larger caliber rounds, like .45 ACP, obviously create larger holes, and too many of these will eventually tear the target. Maintaining them is as simple as replacing them when they become too damaged or riddled with holes to be useful. They certainly outperformed my expectations for an inexpensive, basic target.
Compared to my experiences with higher-end targets, the ALLEN targets are less durable but significantly more affordable. While I wouldn’t rely on them for serious competitive shooting or long-range accuracy testing, they are perfect for basic drills and casual plinking.
