Outdoor Connection Benchbag Bench Rest Review

The Outdoor Connection Benchbag Bench Rest Made a Bold First Impression

The Outdoor Connection Benchbag Bench Rest arrived in unassuming packaging, belying the potential it held for improving my shooting accuracy. I’ve spent years chasing tighter groupings, tweaking rifles, and experimenting with different rests. The promise of a stable and affordable platform, as offered by the Outdoor Connection Benchbag Bench Rest, was certainly enticing.

My shooting accuracy at the range has been decent. But I still get frustrated at inconsistent results when sighting in new rifles or load testing. I’d seen many shooters with these simple bench bags, so I decided to give one a try. I’d also looked at more expensive, filled rests, but the Outdoor Connection Benchbag Bench Rest’s price point of $19.49 was much more appealing.

Unboxing revealed a simple, two-piece design. The bags are visibly well-stitched, and the NuBuc Synthetic suede top felt surprisingly soft. The empty bags felt light, yet sturdy, hinting at the potential for a solid base once filled.

I considered a Caldwell Tack Driver bag. Also, the Protektor Model #13A rabbit ear bag, but ultimately opted for the Outdoor Connection Benchbag Bench Rest due to its incredibly low price and compact design. The others seemed bulky for what I needed. My first impression was one of cautious optimism. It didn’t scream high-end, but it looked like it could get the job done effectively and economically.

Real-World Testing: Putting Outdoor Connection Benchbag Bench Rest to the Test

First Use Experience

My initial test took place at my local outdoor range, a dusty, gravel-covered expanse where the wind often plays havoc with accuracy. I filled the bags with play sand readily available at most hardware stores. It provided a dense, stable fill. The Outdoor Connection Benchbag Bench Rest took shape quickly, offering a noticeable improvement over my usual makeshift rest of rolled-up jackets and range bags.

The difference was immediately apparent. My groups tightened considerably, particularly with my .308 Winchester bolt-action rifle. The soft NuBuc Synthetic suede top provided a comfortable and non-slip surface for the rifle’s forend. This allowed for more consistent shot placement even with moderate wind gusts.

I did find that it took some experimentation to find the optimal bag positioning. The rear bag needed some finesse to dial in the precise elevation needed for consistent shots. But with a little practice, the Outdoor Connection Benchbag Bench Rest was manageable.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several range sessions spanning weeks, the Outdoor Connection Benchbag Bench Rest has proven to be a reliable and worthwhile addition to my shooting kit. There are no signs of seam failure or tearing, even with the bags being repeatedly filled and emptied. The 1000 Denier Polyester construction appears to be quite durable.

Cleaning is easy. A quick wipe down with a damp cloth removes dust and dirt effectively. I’ve even used a mild soap solution to remove stubborn grime with no adverse effects. It easily maintains its shape and continues to provide stable support.

Compared to my previous methods of propping up my rifle, the Outdoor Connection Benchbag Bench Rest offers a vast improvement in consistency and accuracy. The enhanced stability lets me focus more on my trigger pull and breathing, leading to better overall performance.
