Trijicon HD XR Night Set for Glock Large Frame Green/Orange Outline Tritium Handgun Sight Review

The Trijicon HD XR Night Set for Glock Large Frame Green/Orange Outline Tritium Handgun Sight Made a Bold First Impression

The Trijicon HD XR Night Set for Glock Large Frame Green/Orange Outline Tritium Handgun Sight promises enhanced visibility and faster target acquisition, especially in low-light conditions. As someone who relies on a Glock 20 for both personal defense and backcountry protection, I was keen to see if these sights lived up to the hype surrounding the Trijicon name. My aging factory Glock sights, barely visible in dim light, were no longer cutting it for my needs.

For years, I struggled with standard sights in dawn and dusk situations. The problem was simple: I needed sights that offered quick target acquisition and clear visibility regardless of lighting. After reading numerous reviews and consulting with fellow firearms enthusiasts, the Trijicon HD XR Night Set seemed like the ideal solution.

Upon unboxing the Trijicon HD XR Night Set, I was immediately impressed by the solid feel and robust construction. The sights felt substantial and well-made, inspiring confidence in their durability. Compared to cheaper aftermarket sights I’ve tried, these felt like a serious upgrade, particularly compared to the polymer sights that come standard on most Glocks.

I considered other options, like the XS Sights F8 Night Sights and the Ameriglo Hackathorn sights. However, the Trijicon‘s reputation for brightness and the thinner front sight post of the XR model ultimately swayed my decision. I was excited to install them and see if they lived up to expectations.

My first impression was overwhelmingly positive. The bold orange outline on the front sight practically jumped out, even in my dimly lit workshop. This was exactly what I was hoping for, and I couldn’t wait to get to the range and see how they performed in real-world scenarios.

Real-World Testing: Putting Trijicon HD XR Night Set for Glock Large Frame Green/Orange Outline Tritium Handgun Sight to the Test

First Use Experience

I tested the Trijicon HD XR Night Set primarily at my local outdoor shooting range. I subjected them to both bright daylight and dusk conditions. I also spent a few hours in a low-light indoor range to evaluate their performance in near-darkness.

The difference was immediately noticeable. The bright orange outline of the front sight made target acquisition incredibly fast, even when transitioning between multiple targets. In low light, the tritium inserts provided a clear and consistent glow, allowing for accurate shots without needing a flashlight. I needed only a few magazines to become completely comfortable with the new sight picture.

There were no immediate issues, but I did notice the thinner front sight required a slightly more precise sight alignment than the stock sights. This wasn’t a problem, just something to get used to. I was surprised by how much faster my follow-up shots were with the improved visibility.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of regular use, the Trijicon HD XR Night Set continues to perform flawlessly. There are no signs of wear and tear on the tritium inserts or the painted outlines. The finish remains intact despite repeated holster draws and exposure to the elements.

Cleaning is straightforward; a simple wipe-down with a CLP-soaked cloth keeps them in pristine condition. Compared to my previous aftermarket sights, which often required specialized cleaning solutions, these are remarkably easy to maintain. I would rate these as being far more durable.

These sights have exceeded my expectations. They have consistently provided a clear and reliable sight picture, regardless of the lighting conditions. They have proven to be a significant upgrade, improving my accuracy and confidence in my Glock 20.

Breaking Down the Features of Trijicon HD XR Night Set for Glock Large Frame Green/Orange Outline Tritium Handgun Sight

Specifications

The Trijicon HD XR Night Set for Glock Large Frame Green/Orange Outline Tritium Handgun Sight, specifically the GL604-C-600841 model, is designed for Glock large frame pistols (20, 21, 29, 30, 31, 32). The set features a bright orange front sight outline and three-dot tritium lamps for enhanced visibility in all lighting conditions. The thinner front sight (XR designation) is designed to provide increased long-range accuracy.

The front sight’s bright orange ring is designed for rapid target acquisition in daylight, while the tritium lamp offers clear visibility in low light or complete darkness. The rear sight features two tritium dots with black outlines, reducing distractions and focusing the shooter’s attention on the front sight. The robust construction ensures the sights can withstand the rigors of daily carry and harsh environments.

These specifications matter because they directly impact the shooter’s ability to quickly and accurately engage targets. The high-visibility front sight is critical for fast target acquisition, while the tritium lamps provide reliable illumination in low-light situations. The durable construction ensures the sights will hold up under demanding conditions, making them suitable for both self-defense and professional use.

Performance & Functionality

The Trijicon HD XR Night Set performs exceptionally well. Its primary function – providing a clear and visible sight picture – is executed flawlessly. The bright orange outline on the front sight is incredibly effective for quick target acquisition in daylight, while the tritium lamps provide ample illumination in low-light conditions.

The main strength is its enhanced visibility in all lighting conditions. There’s little to improve. The thinner front sight post, while requiring slightly more precise alignment, ultimately enhances accuracy at longer ranges.

The Trijicon HD XR Night Set not only meets but exceeds my expectations. Its performance is noticeably superior to the factory Glock sights and other aftermarket options I’ve used. They have significantly improved my shooting accuracy and speed.

Design & Ergonomics

The Trijicon HD XR Night Set boasts excellent build quality, using high-quality steel and durable tritium lamps. The sights feel substantial and well-made, adding confidence in their reliability. The weight is negligible and doesn’t affect the balance of the pistol.

The sights are user-friendly and require minimal adjustment. The sight picture is clear and intuitive, making it easy to transition from standard sights. The bright orange outline on the front sight quickly draws the eye, facilitating rapid target acquisition.

Durability & Maintenance

The Trijicon HD XR Night Set is built to last. The robust steel construction and protected tritium lamps ensure they can withstand the wear and tear of daily use and harsh environments. With proper care, these sights should provide years of reliable service.

Maintenance is simple and straightforward. A quick wipe-down with a CLP-soaked cloth is usually sufficient to keep them clean and functional. The tritium lamps are self-illuminating and do not require any special maintenance.

Accessories and Customization Options

The Trijicon HD XR Night Set itself doesn’t come with many accessories, focusing instead on providing a complete and ready-to-install sighting solution. No other modifications are necessary for functionality. The sights are compatible with most standard Glock holsters.

While the sights themselves don’t offer extensive customization options, the user can choose between different front sight colors (e.g., yellow, green). This allows shooters to personalize their sight picture to suit their preferences. It is crucial to ensure any holster used is compatible with aftermarket sights, as some molded holsters may not accommodate the taller sight profile.
