The TruGlo TFX 3-Dot Set for FN 9mm FNX, FNP, FNS Fiber Optic Handgun Sight Made a Bold First Impression
The TruGlo TFX 3-Dot Set for FN 9mm FNX, FNP, FNS Fiber Optic Handgun Sight promises enhanced visibility and rapid target acquisition for FN pistol owners. TruGlo has built a reputation for delivering quality aiming solutions, and these sights aim to elevate the user experience for the FN series pistols. I was eager to see if these sights lived up to the hype and addressed some common issues with factory sights.
My aging eyes were the primary driver for seeking an upgrade. The factory sights on my FNX-9, while functional, lacked the brightness and contrast needed for quick target acquisition in varying light conditions. I needed something that would excel in low-light scenarios and provide a clear, distinct sight picture in bright daylight.
The TruGlo TFX sights arrived neatly packaged, conveying a sense of quality. The steel construction felt robust and durable in my hands. The fiber optic elements appeared vibrant, promising excellent visibility.
I considered the Meprolight Tru-Dot Adjustable Night Sight Set and the AmeriGlo Classic 3-Dot Night Sights. Ultimately, I chose the TruGlo TFX because of its hybrid fiber-optic and tritium design; it seemed to offer the best of both worlds. The TruGlo TFX‘s purported resistance to solvents and chemicals was also a significant selling point.
My first impression was overwhelmingly positive. The sights exuded quality and a robust build. I was excited to install them and see how they performed on the range.
Real-World Testing: Putting TruGlo TFX 3-Dot Set for FN 9mm FNX, FNP, FNS Fiber Optic Handgun Sight to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the TruGlo TFX 3-Dot Set at my local outdoor shooting range. The weather was partly cloudy, providing a mix of bright and shaded lighting conditions. Installation was straightforward, thanks to several online tutorials, though a gunsmith is always recommended if you’re not comfortable.
The difference in visibility compared to the factory sights was immediately noticeable. The fiber optic elements glowed brightly in the available sunlight, making target acquisition significantly faster and easier. The Focus Lock ring on the front sight really helped draw the eye to the front post.
There were no immediate issues, but the rear sight felt a bit snug during installation, requiring a few taps with a nylon punch. I had to adjust the sight slightly to get a consistent point of impact, but that’s typical with any new sight system.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use, the TruGlo TFX sights have held up admirably. I’ve put approximately 1000 rounds through my FNX-9 with these sights installed. They still maintain their brightness and haven’t shown any signs of fading or damage.
The Fortress Finish seems to be doing its job, as the sights remain resistant to scratches and corrosion, despite frequent cleaning and exposure to various weather conditions. Cleaning is simple; a quick wipe with a solvent-safe cloth keeps them looking new. Compared to my previous experiences with painted iron sights, the TruGlo TFX sights have far exceeded my expectations in terms of durability and visibility.
