The Trijicon DI Night Set for Springfield XD/XD Mod.2/XD-M Tritium Handgun Sight Made a Bold First Impression
After a decade navigating the intricate world of outdoor and tactical gear, I’ve learned that some upgrades are simply transformative. The Trijicon DI Night Set for Springfield XD/XD Mod.2/XD-M Tritium Handgun Sight promised to be one of those. Trijicon‘s reputation precedes them; their ACOG is legendary, and the promise of similar technology in a handgun sight was incredibly compelling.
My Springfield XD Mod.2 has always been a reliable workhorse, but its factory sights left something to be desired, especially in low-light conditions. I needed a sight system that provided clear visibility day or night and enhanced my accuracy. This is where the Trijicon DI Night Sights, with their dual-illumination technology, seemed like the perfect solution.
The package arrived promptly. My first impression was the solid, robust feel of the sights themselves. They exuded quality, and the tritium lamps glowed faintly even in a well-lit room, hinting at their low-light capabilities. These sights felt much more substantial than the factory polymer sights they were replacing.
I considered other options, like the AmeriGlo CAP sights and the TruGlo TFX Pro series, but the Trijicon DI Night Set‘s combination of fiber optics and tritium, coupled with Trijicon‘s renowned durability, ultimately swayed my decision. The AmeriGlo sights seemed more geared towards daylight use, and while the TruGlo sights offered a similar hybrid system, I trusted Trijicon‘s engineering more. I was definitely excited to see if they would live up to the hype and improve my shooting accuracy and confidence.
Real-World Testing: Putting Trijicon DI Night Set for Springfield XD/XD Mod.2/XD-M Tritium Handgun Sight to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial range trip with the Trijicon DI Night Set installed was during a particularly overcast afternoon. The light was flat and visibility was somewhat limited. I immediately noticed the difference. The fiber optic portion of the sights gathered the ambient light, creating bright, distinct dots that were easy to acquire.
The sights were exceptionally easy to use, even without prior experience with night sights. I didn’t need any special tools beyond those needed for a standard sight change. Acquiring the sight picture felt intuitive and faster than with the stock sights. After about 50 rounds, I noticed a significant improvement in my groupings at 15 yards.
No immediate issues arose, but I did notice that the bright green of the fiber optic could be slightly overwhelming in direct sunlight. Still, it wasn’t a major concern.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, including multiple range sessions and even a low-light shooting course, the Trijicon DI Night Set has held up exceptionally well. There’s no visible wear and tear, and the tritium lamps still glow brightly in the dark.
Cleaning has been simple; a quick wipe with a silicone cloth after each range trip is all it takes. The sights have shrugged off exposure to solvents and gun oils without any discoloration or damage. They have proven to be far more durable than the stock polymer sights.
Compared to my previous experience with standard white dot sights, the Trijicon DI Night Set is a game-changer. My low-light accuracy has improved dramatically. The confidence I have in my ability to quickly and accurately acquire a target in any lighting condition is invaluable.
