The Holosun HE509T-GR X2 1x Green 2 MOA Dot / 32 MOA Circle Reflex Sight – CR1632 Battery, Unlimited Eye Relief, Black Field of View, 1x Fixed Magnification Made a Bold First Impression
The Holosun HE509T-GR X2 1x Green 2 MOA Dot / 32 MOA Circle Reflex Sight – CR1632 Battery, Unlimited Eye Relief, Black Field of View, 1x Fixed Magnification isn’t just another red dot sight; it’s a statement. This optic boasts a titanium housing, Holosun’s signature Multi-Reticle System, and the always-appreciated Shake Awake technology, promising reliability and versatility for pistol applications.
My aging eyes were the catalyst for seeking a superior pistol optic. I needed something robust, with a crisp reticle that would perform flawlessly under duress, both on the range and in potential self-defense scenarios.
The unboxing experience was surprisingly premium. The sight felt solid in my hand, the titanium housing exuding quality, and the included tools and battery were a welcome touch. It was clear from the outset that Holosun wasn’t cutting corners with the HE509T-GR X2.
I was torn between this and the Trijicon RMR and the Aimpoint Acro P-2. Ultimately, the Holosun’s combination of a closed emitter, green reticle, and multi-reticle system swayed me, providing more versatility for various lighting conditions and target acquisition scenarios, all at a price point that didn’t require a second mortgage. The fully enclosed design also appealed to my need for ruggedness.
My initial impression was one of cautious optimism. I was excited by the features, but skeptical about whether it could truly live up to the hype in real-world use.
Real-World Testing: Putting Holosun HE509T-GR X2 1x Green 2 MOA Dot / 32 MOA Circle Reflex Sight – CR1632 Battery, Unlimited Eye Relief, Black Field of View, 1x Fixed Magnification to the Test
First Use Experience
My first test involved a trip to the local outdoor shooting range on a partly cloudy day. I mounted the HE509T-GR X2 on my Glock 19 using the included RMR adapter plate (note: it’s crucial to verify compatibility with your slide, as the description mentions limitations with ZEV and Shadow Systems interfaces). Zeroing was surprisingly straightforward, the clicks on the adjustment turrets providing audible and tactile feedback.
The green reticle immediately stood out against the varying light conditions. The 2 MOA dot proved precise for target shooting at 25 yards, while the 32 MOA circle allowed for rapid target acquisition during close-quarters drills. Even with some light rain beginning to fall, the optic’s performance remained unaffected, showcasing the benefits of the enclosed emitter design.
The only initial issue was a slight adjustment period to the window size. It’s smaller than some other optics on the market.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the Holosun HE509T-GR X2 has proven to be a remarkably reliable optic. I’ve subjected it to various conditions, from dusty environments to damp, coastal air, and it has consistently performed without issue.
The titanium housing shows no signs of wear, even after repeated holster draws and accidental bumps. Maintenance is minimal, primarily consisting of wiping the lens with the included lens cloth to remove any debris or fingerprints. Compared to open-emitter optics I’ve used in the past, the enclosed design significantly reduces the need for cleaning and maintenance.
It has far surpassed my expectations. The Holosun HE509T-GR X2 offers similar performance and durability to optics at a significantly higher price point.
