Let’s Dive into Hogue EZG Pre-sized recoil pad Win. 70 Synthetic stock – Black 07720
The Hogue EZG Pre-sized recoil pad Win. 70 Synthetic stock – Black 07720 promises to tame the kick of your favorite Winchester Model 70. As someone who has spent years behind various rifles, I’m always on the lookout for products that genuinely improve the shooting experience. The claim of being “EZG Pre-sized” suggests a simple installation process, a feature that immediately appealed to me, eliminating the need for extensive gunsmithing.
I was drawn to the Hogue EZG recoil pad because I was experiencing significant shoulder fatigue after long sessions at the range with my Winchester Model 70. The factory recoil pad, while functional, wasn’t providing adequate cushioning, leading to discomfort and impacting my accuracy. I wanted a solution that offered superior recoil absorption without requiring a complete stock replacement.
My initial impression upon unboxing was positive; the pad felt solid and well-made. The Hogue synthetic material had a slightly tacky feel, which I anticipated would improve grip and prevent slippage during shooting. The black color seamlessly matched the existing synthetic stock of my Winchester 70, maintaining a clean and professional appearance.
I considered several other recoil pads before settling on the Hogue EZG. Pachmayr Decelerator pads are a popular choice, but often require some trimming and fitting. Limbsaver pads are also excellent, but I was specifically looking for a pre-sized option to minimize installation hassle. The Hogue EZG seemed to offer the best balance of recoil reduction and ease of installation at a reasonable price point.
I was cautiously optimistic. I’ve used Hogue products before and have always been impressed with their quality and durability, but recoil reduction is a subjective experience. I was hoping the EZG would live up to its promise and make my Winchester 70 more comfortable to shoot.
Real-World Testing: Putting Hogue EZG Pre-sized recoil pad Win. 70 Synthetic stock – Black 07720 to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the Hogue EZG Pre-sized recoil pad at my local outdoor shooting range. The weather was mild, around 65 degrees Fahrenheit with a slight breeze, perfect conditions for a comfortable shooting session. I focused on evaluating the pad’s ability to mitigate recoil across different shooting positions – standing, kneeling, and prone.
The Hogue EZG immediately made a noticeable difference. Recoil felt significantly reduced, especially when shooting heavier grain bullets. The pad absorbed a substantial amount of the impact, making extended shooting sessions far more comfortable than before.
Installation, as advertised, was incredibly easy. The “EZG” in the name is no exaggeration; I simply removed the existing recoil pad and screwed the Hogue pad into place using the existing screw holes.
The only minor issue was that the included screws were slightly shorter than the original screws, but they still provided a secure fit.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Hogue EZG has proven to be incredibly durable. There are no signs of wear and tear, despite being exposed to various weather conditions and frequent handling. The synthetic material remains grippy and comfortable.
Cleaning the Hogue EZG is simple; a quick wipe down with a damp cloth is all it takes to remove dirt and residue. The pad shows no signs of cracking or drying out, even after being exposed to direct sunlight.
Compared to my previous experience with the factory recoil pad, the Hogue EZG is a night and day difference. It noticeably reduces felt recoil, allowing me to shoot for longer periods without discomfort. It has definitely exceeded my expectations, transforming my Winchester 70 into a more enjoyable and accurate rifle to shoot.
