Let’s Dive into Safariland ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – OD Green, Left 6305-181-562
As a tactical gear specialist, I’ve seen countless holsters come and go, each promising superior retention, speed, and comfort. However, the Safariland ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – OD Green, Left 6305-181-562 immediately grabbed my attention due to its reputation for rugged reliability and intuitive design. This holster combines Safariland’s proven Automatic Locking System (ALS) with a comfortable and adjustable leg harness, making it a serious contender for anyone needing a secure and accessible carry platform.
My search for a better left-handed tactical holster led me here. My aging drop-leg holster was proving inadequate for dynamic shooting drills.
Upon unboxing, the Safariland holster felt solid and well-constructed. The OD Green SAFARILAMINATE material exudes durability, and the hardware feels robust enough to withstand serious use. The initial impression was of a purpose-built piece of kit designed for demanding environments.
Compared to my older Blackhawk Serpa level 3 and a cheaper Condor drop-leg, the Safariland immediately felt like a significant upgrade. The Serpa’s retention was always a concern, and the Condor lacked the rigidity and adjustability I needed. The Safariland’s ALS system promised a more secure and intuitive draw.
I was genuinely excited to try it out. The promise of a secure, fast draw with a comfortable and stable leg platform was enticing.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – OD Green, Left 6305-181-562 to the Test
First Use Experience
My first outing with the Safariland ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – OD Green, Left 6305-181-562 was at an outdoor shooting range during a tactical pistol course. The course involved a variety of drills, including drawing from different positions, moving and shooting, and engaging multiple targets. This offered an excellent opportunity to evaluate the holster’s performance under pressure.
Even in light rain, the holster performed flawlessly. The ALS system remained reliable, and the textured surface of the release lever provided a positive grip even when wet.
The draw felt surprisingly natural after only a few practice repetitions. The ALS release is intuitive and fast, and the straight-up draw stroke eliminates unnecessary movements. After about an hour, the draw felt completely ingrained, and I was able to achieve consistently fast and accurate presentations.
Initially, the position of the leg shroud felt slightly different than my old holster. It only took a few minutes of adjustments to find the optimal placement for my body type.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Safariland ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – OD Green, Left 6305-181-562 has proven its durability and reliability. I’ve used it in a variety of conditions, from dry and dusty environments to humid and wet ones. The holster still performs like new.
The SAFARILAMINATE construction has held up remarkably well. There are no signs of cracking, peeling, or significant wear and tear. The leg harness shows minimal signs of wear, and the quick-release buckles remain secure and functional.
Maintenance is simple: wiping it down with a damp cloth and occasionally lubricating the ALS mechanism with silicone spray. It’s designed to withstand harsh treatment.
Compared to my previous holster, the Safariland has exceeded my expectations in every way. It offers superior retention, a faster and more intuitive draw, and greater comfort and stability during dynamic movements.
