Let’s Talk About DeSantis USSS Collapsible Baton Holder, Fits 26in – 1 out of 2 models
The DeSantis USSS Collapsible Baton Holder, Fits 26in – 1 out of 2 models is a specialized piece of gear designed for law enforcement and security professionals. This holder from DeSantis, known for its quality leather and nylon goods, aims to provide quick and reliable access to a 16 or 21-inch expandable baton. Its design prioritizes secure retention and ease of deployment, making it a potentially crucial part of an officer’s duty rig.
For years, I’ve struggled to find a baton holder that balances accessibility with rock-solid retention. I needed something that wouldn’t let my baton bounce loose during a foot pursuit but could still be drawn quickly under pressure. I was constantly adjusting, tightening, and sometimes even fearing the loss of my baton during critical moments.
Upon receiving the DeSantis USSS Collapsible Baton Holder, I immediately noticed its robust construction and simple, functional design. It felt solid in my hand, the nylon promising resilience against the rigors of daily duty. The stitching was clean and reinforced, indicating a commitment to durability, which is essential in this line of work.
Compared to some cheaper, universal nylon holders I’ve used, the DeSantis model stood out. Those often relied on flimsy Velcro straps or weak elastic, whereas this promised a more secure, tailored fit. I also considered some Kydex models, but preferred the classic look and feel of the nylon, hoping it would be quieter on my belt.
My first impression was one of cautious optimism. I was excited to see if it would live up to its promise of secure retention and rapid deployment. I was also slightly concerned if the elastic gusset would retain its strength over prolonged use.
Real-World Testing: Putting DeSantis USSS Collapsible Baton Holder, Fits 26in – 1 out of 2 models to the Test
First Use Experience
I initially tested the DeSantis USSS Collapsible Baton Holder during a week-long training exercise focused on defensive tactics and crowd control. The training took place on a variety of surfaces, from paved streets to grassy fields. We drilled extensively on drawing and deploying our batons.
The DeSantis holder performed admirably in both wet and dry conditions. The elastic gusset held the baton securely, even when I was running and jumping. Drawing the baton was intuitive, and the angle of the holder allowed for a smooth, consistent grip.
It took me a few repetitions to find the sweet spot for drawing the baton quickly and efficiently. However, after a short period, the motion became natural and fluid. There were no major issues, though I did notice a slight tendency for the holder to shift position on my belt after repeated draws.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the DeSantis USSS Collapsible Baton Holder has proven to be a reliable piece of gear. There are no signs of excessive wear and tear. The nylon remains sturdy, and the stitching is still intact.
The elastic gusset has retained its elasticity well. The holder still provides a snug fit for my 21-inch baton. Cleaning the holder is straightforward: a quick wipe down with a damp cloth is usually sufficient.
Compared to a previous leather holder I used, this DeSantis model outperforms it in terms of durability and ease of maintenance. The leather required regular conditioning and was prone to cracking. This nylon holder is more resistant to the elements and requires less care.
