Let’s Talk About OPMOD EOTech HWS EXPS2-0 Holographic Reflex Red
The OPMOD EOTech HWS EXPS2-0 Holographic Reflex Red sight promises rapid target acquisition with enhanced visibility. This collaboration between EOTech and OpticsPlanet (OPMOD) delivers a unique optic with a green reticle, a feature touted as significantly easier to see than traditional red. Its single CR123 battery operation, side button controls, and quick-detach lever add to its appeal.
My aging eyes were finding it increasingly difficult to quickly acquire targets with standard red dot sights, particularly in bright daylight. I needed a sighting solution that offered a clearer, more easily discernible reticle without sacrificing the speed and simplicity of a holographic sight. The OPMOD EOTech HWS EXPS2-0 Holographic Reflex Red with its green reticle seemed like a promising solution.
Unboxing the sight was a premium experience, the rugged case hinting at the optic’s durability. The weight felt substantial but balanced, and the build quality appeared robust with precisely machined parts. Initial impressions suggested this was a serious piece of kit, ready to withstand harsh conditions.
I considered the Aimpoint PRO and the Trijicon MRO before ultimately choosing the OPMOD EOTech HWS EXPS2-0 Holographic Reflex Red. While both are excellent optics, the EOTech’s holographic reticle and the promise of a more visible green dot swayed my decision. The quick-detach lever was also a significant factor, allowing for easy mounting and removal.
The initial excitement was high. The green reticle jumped out immediately, and the sight picture was incredibly clear. This seemed like exactly what I needed to improve my shooting speed and accuracy.
Real-World Testing: Putting OPMOD EOTech HWS EXPS2-0 Holographic Reflex Red to the Test
First Use Experience
My first range trip with the OPMOD EOTech HWS EXPS2-0 Holographic Reflex Red was illuminating, literally. I tested the sight on my AR-15 at an outdoor range, engaging targets from 25 to 100 yards. The green reticle’s superior visibility was immediately apparent, especially under the bright midday sun.
The EOTech performed flawlessly, even when the wind kicked up dust, and the temperature climbed into the high 80s. Target acquisition was noticeably faster than with my old red dot, and the sight maintained zero throughout the session. The side buttons were intuitive, and adjustments were simple and precise.
It took only a few minutes to get accustomed to the EOTech’s larger window and the green reticle’s presentation. The 68 MOA ring around the 1 MOA dot provided a useful reference for close-quarters engagements. I found the co-witnessing capability with my iron sights reassuring.
No major issues arose during the first outing, although I did notice the battery life indicator flashing earlier than expected. This prompted me to investigate power consumption further.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the OPMOD EOTech HWS EXPS2-0 Holographic Reflex Red has proven to be a reliable and accurate optic. I’ve used it in various conditions, from sunny range days to rainy training sessions. The sight has held zero consistently.
The EOTech has shown no significant signs of wear, despite being subjected to the usual bumps and scrapes associated with tactical training. The housing remains scratch-free. The glass is still crystal clear.
Maintenance is straightforward: I wipe down the lens with a microfiber cloth after each range session and occasionally check the battery compartment for corrosion. No repairs have been needed. This shows the build quality and value.
Compared to other optics I’ve used, the OPMOD EOTech HWS EXPS2-0 Holographic Reflex Red excels in visibility and speed. The green reticle offers a significant advantage in bright conditions. Battery life, however, remains a concern.
