I’ve spent over a decade peering through various optics, from cheap department store models to high-end military-grade spotting scopes. For years, I relied on a set of 10×42 binoculars, which were fine for general use, but lacked the extra reach and light-gathering ability I needed for spotting game at dawn and dusk. I specifically sought higher magnification and a larger objective lens. Compared to lighter, cheaper options, the Bushnell Engage EDX 12x 50mm Binocular – 4.10mm Exit Pupil, 15mm Eye Relief, 280 ft @ 1,000 yds Field of View, 12x Fixed Magnification felt like a serious piece of equipment.

I considered the Vortex Diamondback HD 12×50 and the Leupold BX-1 McKenzie HD 12×50, both reputable contenders. However, the Bushnell Engage EDX’s advertised EXO Barrier lens coating and reputation for clarity swayed me. My first impression was definitely excitement, mixed with a touch of anticipation to see if they lived up to the hype in the field.
