The Bushnell Banner 3-9x 50mm Matte Black Rifle Scope – 3-9x Adjustable Magnification, 16″ Length, 31-60mm Objective Diameter, Non-illuminated Reticle Illumination Made a Bold First Impression
The Bushnell Banner 3-9x 50mm Matte Black Rifle Scope promises a classic hunting optic experience at an accessible price point. Bushnell aims to deliver reliable performance without breaking the bank, making it a popular choice for both seasoned hunters and newcomers to the shooting sports. I needed a dependable scope for my .30-06 deer rifle, something that wouldn’t fail me in the early morning or late evening light when those big bucks tend to move.
The Bushnell Banner arrived in a simple, no-frills box. The scope itself felt solid, though not overly heavy, with a matte black finish that seemed durable enough to withstand the rigors of the field. Compared to my Leupold VX-3i, the Banner lacked the same level of refinement in the finish, but it also cost significantly less. I chose the Bushnell Banner over a similar scope from Simmons because Bushnell has a longer-standing reputation for decent quality optics.
My first impression was cautiously optimistic. The Bushnell Banner 3-9x 50mm Matte Black Rifle Scope felt like a practical, no-nonsense optic that would get the job done. I was eager to mount it on my rifle and see how it performed in real-world hunting scenarios.
Real-World Testing: Putting Bushnell Banner 3-9x 50mm Matte Black Rifle Scope – 3-9x Adjustable Magnification, 16″ Length, 31-60mm Objective Diameter, Non-illuminated Reticle Illumination to the Test
First Use Experience
I mounted the Bushnell Banner on my trusty Remington 700 .30-06 and headed to my local shooting range. The initial zeroing process was straightforward, and the turrets, while not the most tactile, adjusted consistently. I tested the scope in bright daylight and under the shaded cover of the range’s awning.
In brighter conditions, the image was clear and bright, however, as the light waned, the image quality noticeably diminished. There were no glaring issues, but I definitely noticed the difference compared to higher-end scopes.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of range sessions and a few unsuccessful hunts, the Bushnell Banner has held up reasonably well. I haven’t noticed any significant wear and tear, and the zero has remained consistent. Cleaning the lenses is simple enough with a standard lens cloth.
While it hasn’t blown me away with its performance, it has met my basic expectations for a budget-friendly hunting scope. It definitely doesn’t compare to the clarity of my Zeiss Conquest, but that scope costs several times more. The Bushnell Banner gets the job done without any unnecessary fuss.
Breaking Down the Features of Bushnell Banner 3-9x 50mm Matte Black Rifle Scope – 3-9x Adjustable Magnification, 16″ Length, 31-60mm Objective Diameter, Non-illuminated Reticle Illumination
Specifications
The Bushnell Banner 3-9x 50mm Matte Black Rifle Scope features several key specifications worth noting. It boasts a 3-9x adjustable magnification, allowing for versatility in different hunting situations. The 50mm objective lens is designed to gather ample light for low-light conditions.
The scope has a 16-inch length, and a 1-inch tube diameter, making it compatible with standard scope rings. It features a non-illuminated Multi-X reticle. This classic reticle design is simple and effective for aiming.
Performance & Functionality
The Bushnell Banner’s 3-9x magnification range provides a good balance for various hunting distances. At 3x, it’s suitable for closer shots in wooded areas, while 9x allows for more precise aiming at longer ranges. Image clarity is decent in good lighting conditions, offering a reasonably clear sight picture.
The scope’s main weakness lies in its low-light performance. While the 50mm objective lens helps, it doesn’t compare to higher-end scopes with superior glass and coatings. The Bushnell Banner meets basic expectations, providing adequate performance for daytime hunting but struggling in twilight conditions.
Design & Ergonomics
The Bushnell Banner features a simple, functional design. The matte black finish reduces glare and helps to blend in with the rifle. The scope’s weight is manageable, not adding excessive bulk to the rifle.
The turrets are easy to grip, but lack distinct clicks, making precise adjustments a bit challenging. The magnification ring turns smoothly, but it could benefit from a more pronounced grip. Overall, the Bushnell Banner’s design prioritizes functionality over aesthetics.
Durability & Maintenance
The Bushnell Banner appears to be reasonably durable for its price point. The matte black finish seems resistant to scratches and minor abrasions. The scope is advertised as being waterproof, though I haven’t submerged it to test this claim thoroughly.
Maintaining the Bushnell Banner is straightforward. Cleaning the lenses with a lens cloth and occasionally wiping down the exterior is all that’s required. With proper care, it should provide several years of reliable service.
Accessories and Customization Options
The Bushnell Banner 3-9x 50mm Matte Black Rifle Scope doesn’t come with any additional accessories beyond basic lens covers. Customization options are limited, as it’s a relatively simple scope. However, it’s compatible with a wide range of standard 1-inch scope rings and bases.
There are no factory options for different reticles or turrets. The Bushnell Banner is designed to be a straightforward, no-frills optic.
