Let’s Dive into Safariland 6305 ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Right Hand 6305-519-131
The Safariland 6305 ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Right Hand 6305-519-131 is a purpose-built piece of equipment designed for professionals who require a secure and readily accessible sidearm. From the Automatic Locking System (ALS) to the quick-release leg harness, this holster is engineered for tactical advantage and reliable performance. Its durable construction and compatibility with S&W M&P .45 pistols make it a serious contender for anyone needing a dependable duty holster.
For years, I’ve struggled to find a leg holster that balances security with ease of draw. Many holsters I’ve used in the past were either too bulky, difficult to draw from under pressure, or simply not secure enough for the demanding environments I often find myself in. I needed a holster that could keep my firearm secure during dynamic movements but allow for a quick and efficient draw when the situation called for it, leading me to explore the offerings from Safariland.
My first impression upon unboxing the Safariland 6305 was its robust construction and the quality of the materials. The STX Tactical Black finish looked professional and durable, and the overall weight felt substantial without being overly cumbersome. The leg harness appeared well-designed and adjustable, promising a comfortable and secure fit.
Compared to similar leg holsters I’ve used from Blackhawk and Blade-Tech, the Safariland 6305 stood out due to its ALS retention system and quick-release leg harness. While those other brands offer decent retention, the ALS system of the Safariland promised a higher level of security. The quick-release harness also looked to offer quicker donning and doffing than the buckle systems used by competitors.
My initial excitement was high, tempered by a slight concern about whether the ALS system would be intuitive to operate under stress. I was eager to put the Safariland 6305 ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Right Hand 6305-519-131 through its paces and see if it lived up to the hype.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6305 ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Right Hand 6305-519-131 to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Safariland 6305 at a local shooting range, focusing on drawing and reholstering drills. I simulated various scenarios, including drawing from a standing position, while moving, and from behind cover. The range provided a safe and controlled environment to familiarize myself with the holster’s operation.
The holster performed admirably in dry conditions, but I also wanted to evaluate its wet weather performance. I simulated rain by soaking the holster and my hands with water to see how the draw stroke and retention were affected. Even with wet hands and a wet holster, the ALS system remained reliable, and the draw stroke remained smooth.
It took me a few hours to become completely comfortable with the ALS release mechanism. At first, I fumbled with the release button, but with practice, the motion became fluid and natural. After a few days, drawing from the holster felt second nature.
The only issue I encountered during my initial testing was the slight adjustment needed to ensure the leg harness fit perfectly. Once I adjusted the straps correctly, the holster remained stable and comfortable, even during rapid movements.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the Safariland 6305 has held up exceptionally well. I’ve used it during training exercises, force on force, and while instructing firearms courses. The holster has seen everything from arid desert environments to damp, humid conditions.
There are minimal signs of wear and tear on the holster itself. The STX Tactical Black finish has resisted scratches and abrasions, even after repeated contact with gear and equipment. The leg harness straps have maintained their integrity and elasticity, showing no signs of fraying or stretching.
Maintaining the Safariland 6305 is straightforward. I simply wipe it down with a damp cloth after each use and occasionally apply a silicone-based lubricant to the ALS mechanism to ensure smooth operation. The holster has proven to be reliable and requires minimal upkeep.
Compared to the other duty holsters I’ve used, the Safariland 6305 outperforms them in terms of security, comfort, and durability. The ALS system provides a level of retention that instills confidence, while the adjustable leg harness ensures a comfortable fit, even during extended periods of wear. It has exceeded my expectations.
