The Safariland 6305 ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Left Hand 6305-320-132 is not just another holster; it’s a statement. Crafted by Safariland, a name synonymous with law enforcement and military-grade gear, this left-handed tactical holster promises secure weapon retention and rapid deployment in demanding situations. It stands out with its Automatic Locking System (ALS) and quick-release leg harness, features designed for professionals who prioritize both security and speed.
As a seasoned tactical gear specialist, I’ve seen countless holsters come and go, each promising the world but often falling short in real-world scenarios. I was specifically looking for a leg holster solution that offered superior retention without sacrificing draw speed, a balance often difficult to achieve. I needed something that could withstand the rigors of training, potential combat situations, and the unpredictable nature of outdoor environments.
Upon unboxing, the Safariland 6305 immediately impressed with its robust construction and thoughtful design. The STX Tactical Black finish is both durable and professional-looking, while the leg harness feels sturdy and well-engineered. Its weight inspires confidence, hinting at the quality materials used in its construction and the secure hold it promises.
Compared to other leg holsters I’ve used, like the Blackhawk! Serpa or the Blade-Tech WRS Level II Duty Holster, the Safariland 6305 seemed to offer a better balance of retention, accessibility, and overall build quality. I chose this over others due to Safariland’s reputation for reliability and the proven track record of their ALS system. The quick-release leg harness was also a major selling point for its added versatility and emergency egress capabilities.
My initial impression was a mix of excitement and cautious optimism. I was excited about the potential of the ALS system and the comfortable fit of the leg harness. However, I was cautiously optimistic, knowing that only rigorous testing would reveal if the Safariland 6305 could truly live up to its promises.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6305 ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Left Hand 6305-320-132 to the Test
First Use Experience
My first test of the Safariland 6305 was at a local shooting range, where I ran various drills focusing on drawing and re-holstering under pressure. I focused on scenarios involving movement, simulated cover, and rapid target engagement. The holster was also tested during a force on force training exercise that demanded movement in dense urban terrain.
The Safariland 6305 performed admirably in dry conditions. The ALS system provided a reassuringly secure hold, preventing any accidental weapon release during dynamic movements. Learning the draw stroke required a brief adjustment period, but after a few repetitions, it became intuitive and lightning-fast.
The only initial issue was getting the leg straps adjusted just right. Too tight, and they restricted movement; too loose, and the holster flopped around.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use in various training scenarios, the Safariland 6305 has proven to be an incredibly reliable piece of kit. It has been exposed to rain, mud, and dust without any degradation in performance or retention. The STX Tactical finish shows minimal wear, and the ALS system continues to function flawlessly.
The holster has held up exceptionally well, showing only minor cosmetic wear on the leg shroud and strap buckles. Regular cleaning with a damp cloth and occasional lubrication of the ALS mechanism have kept it in top condition. It is a robust system, designed to work in the most demanding circumstances.
Compared to my previous experiences with other holsters, the Safariland 6305 significantly outperforms them in terms of retention, durability, and comfort. The ALS system provides a superior level of security compared to friction-based holsters, while the quick-release leg harness adds a level of versatility that I haven’t found in other systems. It has proven to be a worthy investment, exceeding my initial expectations.
