Let’s Dive into Safariland 6305 ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Left Hand 6305-185-132
The Safariland 6305 ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Left Hand 6305-185-132 is a serious piece of kit for anyone needing secure and reliable weapon retention in dynamic environments. Manufactured by Safariland, a name synonymous with quality and innovation in law enforcement and military gear, this holster combines their proven Automatic Locking System (ALS) with a robust leg harness. This holster is built for professionals who demand both security and rapid access to their firearm.
For years, I’ve relied on level III retention holsters, but I needed something that offered both security and the ability to quickly detach the whole system when transitioning between operational roles. I was looking for a left-handed, leg-mounted solution that wouldn’t bounce around during foot pursuits or snag on equipment. The Safariland 6305 seemed to tick all the boxes.
Unboxing the holster, I was immediately struck by its solid construction. The STX Tactical Black finish is durable and non-reflective, and the SAFARILAMINATE material felt incredibly robust. The quick-release leg harness seemed well-designed, with adjustable straps and secure buckles.
I had been considering the Blackhawk! Serpa Level 3 Tactical Holster and the Galco Miami Classic II shoulder holster system, but neither offered the specific combination of leg-mounted convenience and ALS security that I needed. The Blackhawk! relied on a finger release that felt less intuitive, while the Galco, though comfortable for concealment, wasn’t ideal for overt tactical use. The Safariland 6305 seemed the best choice for my needs.
My initial impression was definitely positive. The holster felt professional-grade, and the ALS system gave me confidence in its retention capabilities. I was excited to put it through its paces and see how it performed in real-world scenarios.
Real-World Testing: Putting Safariland 6305 ALS Tactical Holster w/ Quick Release Leg Harness – STX Tactical Black, Left Hand 6305-185-132 to the Test
First Use Experience
My first test of the Safariland 6305 was at a dynamic shooting range, simulating various tactical scenarios. I was running, kneeling, and transitioning between shooting positions, all while drawing and reholstering my Beretta PX4 Storm .45ACP. The holster stayed securely in place, and the ALS system proved quick and intuitive to disengage.
I used the holster during a simulated building clearing exercise in a dusty environment. Even covered in dust, the ALS mechanism functioned flawlessly, and the SAFARILAMINATE material showed no signs of abrasion. The quick-release leg harness made it easy to remove the entire setup when transitioning to a vehicle.
It took a few practice draws to get completely comfortable with the ALS release, but after about an hour, it became second nature. The straight-up draw stroke felt natural and efficient. There were no malfunctions or unexpected issues during the initial range session.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Safariland 6305 has proven to be exceptionally durable. The SAFARILAMINATE material shows only minor cosmetic wear, and all the straps and buckles on the leg harness are still functioning perfectly. The holster remains securely attached to my leg, even during vigorous activity.
The holster has seen use in a variety of weather conditions, from scorching summer heat to freezing winter temperatures. The STX Tactical Black finish has resisted fading and cracking. The ALS mechanism continues to function reliably, requiring minimal maintenance.
Compared to other retention holsters I’ve used, the Safariland 6305 stands out for its combination of security, comfort, and durability. It outperforms similar holsters in its ability to retain the weapon securely while still allowing for a rapid draw. I’ve experienced no issues with the holster releasing unintentionally.
