First Thoughts on the Bone Collector – The Provocateur 1PC
Turkey hunting is more than just a sport; it’s an art form. Finding the right call can be the difference between a successful hunt and a frustrating day in the woods. The Bone Collector – The Provocateur 1PC box call, from Bone Collector Game Calls, promises to deliver both elegant aesthetics and exceptional performance, making it an intriguing addition to any hunter’s arsenal.
I’ve been chasing gobblers for over a decade, and I’m always on the lookout for calls that offer realistic sound and reliable performance in varying weather conditions. My trusty slate call has served me well, but its effectiveness wanes on windy days. I needed a call that could cut through the wind and still entice those wary Toms.
The Bone Collector – The Provocateur 1PC arrived in a simple, yet protective cardboard box. The first thing that struck me was its visual appeal. The glossy mahogany and walnut lid create a visually appealing contrast, immediately setting it apart from the utilitarian plastic calls that often dominate the market. It felt solid and well-made in my hands, suggesting a quality build.
I’ve used various box calls over the years, including models from Primos and Quaker Boy. Those calls, while functional, often felt mass-produced. The Bone Collector – The Provocateur 1PC, on the other hand, exudes a sense of craftsmanship and individual tuning.
Initially, I was excited by the promise of a call that blends aesthetic appeal with practical performance. Whether it could truly deliver realistic turkey sounds and withstand the rigors of the hunt remained to be seen, but I was eager to put it to the test.
Real-World Testing: Putting Bone Collector – The Provocateur 1PC to the Test
First Use Experience
My first field test of the Bone Collector – The Provocateur 1PC took place during the spring turkey season in the rolling hills of Eastern Tennessee. The morning was crisp, with a steady breeze that would challenge any open-reed or diaphragm call. I positioned myself near a known roosting area, eager to see how the call would perform.
The Bone Collector – The Provocateur 1PC exceeded my expectations in the windy conditions. Its sound carried exceptionally well, cutting through the wind without distortion. I was able to produce realistic yelps, clucks, and cutts, and noticed immediate interest from a Tom about 200 yards away.
The call was easy to use right out of the box. The ergonomic shape fit comfortably in my hand, allowing for precise and controlled strokes. Within minutes, I was replicating the sounds I needed without any struggle.
Following my first use, I noticed that the call sounded better after being chalked with regular chalk and the proper conditioning of the wood surfaces. The wood has a good natural resonance and benefits from proper maintenance and use.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of use throughout the turkey season, the Bone Collector – The Provocateur 1PC has proven to be a reliable and effective tool. It has been subjected to a variety of weather conditions, including rain, high humidity, and even a brief hailstorm.
Despite the elements, the call has held up remarkably well. There are no signs of wear and tear on the wood, and the sound quality remains consistent. I’ve kept it protected when not in use in a call carrier case.
Maintaining the Bone Collector – The Provocateur 1PC is straightforward. I simply wipe it down after each use and occasionally apply a thin layer of chalk to the sounding surfaces to maintain optimal performance. This is standard for box calls.
In comparison to other box calls I’ve used, the Bone Collector – The Provocateur 1PC stands out for its consistent sound quality and durability. It has become my go-to call for windy days, consistently outperforming my other calls in these challenging conditions.
