First Thoughts on the NBG DUCK CALL POLY SINGLE – GUNSMOKE
The NBG DUCK CALL POLY SINGLE – GUNSMOKE promises to be a reliable and effective tool for waterfowl hunters. Manufactured by NBG, this single-reed duck call is designed for ease of use and consistent sound production. This call aims to offer a balanced performance, blending user-friendliness with effective duck-attracting tones.
I was initially drawn to this particular call while preparing for an upcoming duck hunting season. My primary need was for a durable, weather-resistant call that could produce realistic duck sounds without requiring advanced calling techniques. The NBG DUCK CALL POLY SINGLE – GUNSMOKE, with its polymer construction and single-reed design, seemed like it could fit the bill.
Upon unboxing, the call felt solid and well-constructed. The gunsmoke color gives it a tactical yet natural aesthetic. The polymer material feels durable and ready to withstand the harsh conditions often encountered in waterfowl hunting.
Compared to my previous acrylic double-reed call, the NBG DUCK CALL POLY SINGLE – GUNSMOKE felt simpler and potentially easier to master. I also considered a similar polycarbonate call from another brand, but the NBG‘s reputation for consistent quality and the appealing gunsmoke finish swayed my decision. My initial impression was positive, and I was eager to test its performance in the field.
Real-World Testing: Putting NBG DUCK CALL POLY SINGLE – GUNSMOKE to the Test
First Use Experience
My first outing with the NBG DUCK CALL POLY SINGLE – GUNSMOKE was on a cold, early morning hunt in a flooded timber area. The conditions were damp and the temperature hovered just above freezing. This environment provided a perfect testing ground for its weather resistance.
The call was surprisingly easy to use right out of the box. I quickly produced a decent hail call and some softer feeding chuckles. The sound carried well across the water, and I noticed a responsive tone that didn’t require excessive air pressure. The ducks responded favorably, and a small group of mallards circled our decoys before committing.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of consistent use throughout the hunting season, the NBG DUCK CALL POLY SINGLE – GUNSMOKE continued to perform reliably. The polymer material showed no signs of cracking or fading, even after repeated exposure to rain, mud, and temperature fluctuations. Cleaning was simple. I rinsed the call with water after each hunt to remove any debris.
Compared to my previous acrylic call, the NBG required less maintenance. It didn’t stick or freeze up as easily in cold weather. Its consistent performance and easy maintenance have made it a reliable tool in my hunting arsenal, consistently outperforming my expectations for a call in this price range.
