Let’s Dive into ProMag Ruger LC9 9mm 7 Round Pistol Magazine
The ProMag Ruger LC9 9mm 7 Round Pistol Magazine is a blued steel magazine designed as an aftermarket option for the popular Ruger LC9 series. It offers a standard 7-round capacity and aims to provide reliable feeding and durability at an affordable price.
I was looking for an affordable and reliable magazine to supplement the factory magazines for my Ruger LC9s. Factory magazines can be expensive, and I wanted some range mags without breaking the bank.
My initial impression upon unboxing was that the magazine felt solid, especially considering the price point. The blued steel finish looked clean, and the overall construction seemed decent.
Compared to the factory Ruger magazines, the ProMag felt slightly less refined, but still seemingly functional. I was choosing between this and a couple of other aftermarket magazines, but the price and generally positive (though mixed) reviews swayed me to try this one first. I was cautiously optimistic.
Real-World Testing: Putting ProMag Ruger LC9 9mm 7 Round Pistol Magazine to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the ProMag Ruger LC9 9mm 7 Round Pistol Magazine at my local indoor shooting range. I ran about 100 rounds through it during my first session.
The magazine performed adequately. There were a couple of instances where the slide failed to lock back after the last round. I suspect the magazine spring may need to break in a bit.
Extended Use & Reliability
After about a month of use and roughly 500 rounds fired, the ProMag Ruger LC9 9mm 7 Round Pistol Magazine is holding up, but not flawlessly. I still occasionally experience the slide failing to lock back.
There are some minor scratches on the finish from inserting and removing it from the pistol. Cleaning is straightforward; I just wipe it down with a lightly oiled cloth after each range session. I have mixed feelings about its reliability compared to factory mags.

These specifications are important for several reasons. The 7-round capacity is standard for concealed carry, and the steel construction is important for durability.
Performance & Functionality
The ProMag Ruger LC9 9mm 7 Round Pistol Magazine functions adequately, but it’s not perfect. Its main strength is its affordable price point, making it a viable option for range use. The slide failing to lock back consistently is a weakness.
It meets expectations for a budget magazine, but doesn’t exceed them. Its reliability needs improvement.

The magazine is constructed from blued steel. It feels relatively sturdy, although not as refined as the factory Ruger magazines.
There’s no real learning curve to using it; it functions like any standard pistol magazine.

Who Should Buy ProMag Ruger LC9 9mm 7 Round Pistol Magazine?
The ProMag Ruger LC9 9mm 7 Round Pistol Magazine is perfect for Ruger LC9 and LC9s owners looking for affordable range magazines. It’s suitable for shooters who want extra mags for practice and are willing to accept a slightly lower level of reliability compared to factory magazines.
Those who prioritize absolute reliability for self-defense should probably stick with factory magazines. A must-have modification would be thoroughly cleaning the magazine upon purchase and testing it extensively before relying on it.
Conclusion on ProMag Ruger LC9 9mm 7 Round Pistol Magazine
The ProMag Ruger LC9 9mm 7 Round Pistol Magazine offers a budget-friendly alternative to factory Ruger magazines. The price is justified if you understand its limitations.
