First Thoughts on the SureFire XC2-B 300 Lumens/5mW Output Red Laser Universal/Picatinny Rails Mount Black Anodized Aluminum
The SureFire XC2-B 300 Lumens/5mW Output Red Laser Universal/Picatinny Rails Mount Black Anodized Aluminum is a compact weapon light and laser aiming device designed for concealed carry and close-quarters engagements. This unit promises to offer enhanced visibility and aiming capabilities in low-light environments. I’ve been running a dedicated weapon light on my Glock 19 for years, and while effective, it lacked the precision aiming capability that a laser provides, especially in unconventional shooting positions. I was seeking a single, streamlined unit that would provide both light and laser, without adding significant bulk to my concealed carry setup.
My search for a compact and reliable weapon light/laser combo led me to the SureFire XC2-B 300 Lumens/5mW Output Red Laser Universal/Picatinny Rails Mount Black Anodized Aluminum. I’d previously considered the Streamlight TLR-8 and the Crimson Trace Rail Master Pro, but I chose the SureFire due to their reputation for durability and performance. The SureFire brand is synonymous with quality and reliability in the tactical gear world, and I was willing to pay a premium for that peace of mind. My first impressions were positive; the unit felt solid and well-built.
The black anodized aluminum housing exudes quality, and the compact design is immediately appealing. Holding it in my hand, it’s clear that SureFire paid attention to detail. Initial inspection suggests it will be a significant upgrade over my previous, light-only setup.
Real-World Testing: Putting SureFire XC2-B 300 Lumens/5mW Output Red Laser Universal/Picatinny Rails Mount Black Anodized Aluminum to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the SureFire XC2-B 300 Lumens/5mW Output Red Laser Universal/Picatinny Rails Mount Black Anodized Aluminum at an indoor shooting range specializing in low-light training scenarios. I ran several drills incorporating movement, target acquisition, and rapid fire. The low-light environment allowed me to fully evaluate the effectiveness of both the light and the laser.
The 300-lumen output was adequate for illuminating targets at close to medium ranges within the range. The red laser was easily visible against various backgrounds, even with some ambient light present. Initially, I needed a few magazines to adjust to the new aiming system, finding the ideal grip and pressure on the activation switches.
My biggest surprise was how intuitively the ambidextrous switching became. The SureFire XC2-B immediately improved my speed and accuracy, especially when shooting from non-traditional positions.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the SureFire XC2-B 300 Lumens/5mW Output Red Laser Universal/Picatinny Rails Mount Black Anodized Aluminum has held up remarkably well. There are no signs of significant wear and tear on the anodized aluminum housing. The switches still feel crisp and responsive.
Maintenance is simple; I wipe it down with a clean cloth after each range session. A more thorough cleaning involves a quick wipe with a silicone cloth to protect the finish. I was initially concerned about battery life, but I find I can easily get several range sessions from a single set of batteries.
Compared to my previous weapon light setup, the SureFire XC2-B offers a significant upgrade in versatility and aiming capability. The combined light and laser in a compact package has exceeded my expectations.
