First Thoughts on the Streamlight 78101 Stinger 2020 Black Anodized Aluminum White LED 100/850/2000 Lumens 315 Meters Range
The Streamlight 78101 Stinger 2020 Black Anodized Aluminum White LED 100/850/2000 Lumens 315 Meters Range is Streamlight’s newest evolution in their popular Stinger line, promising a significant upgrade in brightness and functionality. With its 2000-lumen output and dual switch design, this flashlight immediately positions itself as a serious contender for professionals and serious enthusiasts alike. It screams robust build quality and innovative design.
I needed a reliable, high-output flashlight that could withstand the rigors of outdoor use and potential tactical scenarios. My old light, while decent, lacked the punch needed for truly demanding situations, like searching large areas or navigating dense terrain at night. The Stinger 2020’s advertised features seemed to address these needs perfectly.
Unboxing the Stinger 2020, I was immediately impressed by its heft and solid construction. The black anodized aluminum felt durable and offered a good grip. It’s noticeably heavier than my previous polymer-bodied flashlight, but the weight felt reassuringly substantial.
I was considering the Fenix PD36R and the Olight Warrior X Pro, both popular options in the high-lumen, rechargeable flashlight market. However, the Stinger 2020‘s dual-switch system and reputation for ruggedness swayed me. I also appreciated Streamlight’s history of producing reliable, long-lasting products.
My first impression was excitement tempered with a bit of apprehension about the size and weight. The promise of 2000 lumens was thrilling, but I hoped the size wouldn’t make it unwieldy. Time would tell if it lived up to the hype.
Real-World Testing: Putting Streamlight 78101 Stinger 2020 Black Anodized Aluminum White LED 100/850/2000 Lumens 315 Meters Range to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial test of the Streamlight 78101 Stinger 2020 Black Anodized Aluminum White LED 100/850/2000 Lumens 315 Meters Range was on a nighttime search and rescue training exercise with my volunteer team. We were tasked with locating a “lost hiker” in a heavily wooded area. The Stinger 2020 proved invaluable in cutting through the darkness.
The light performed admirably in damp conditions, thanks to its IPX7 waterproof rating. A light rain didn’t seem to affect its performance at all. The dual switch system allowed for easy operation even with gloved hands.
The intuitive mode selector switch allowed for quick adjustments between the 100, 850, and 2000 lumen settings. No learning curve was present, making it easy to use. I did notice that the highest setting generated significant heat after extended use.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of regular use during various outdoor activities, the Streamlight 78101 Stinger 2020 Black Anodized Aluminum White LED 100/850/2000 Lumens 315 Meters Range has proven to be a reliable and durable tool. I’ve used it on camping trips, during nighttime security patrols, and even for simple tasks around the house. It’s become an indispensable part of my gear.
The anodized aluminum body has held up well to minor bumps and scratches. There are a few cosmetic blemishes, but nothing that affects performance. I make sure to wipe it down with a clean cloth after each use to remove any dirt or grime.
Maintenance is minimal; I primarily focus on keeping the charging contacts clean and ensuring the battery is properly charged. This is generally easy to do. The light outperforms my previous flashlights in terms of both brightness and battery life.
